Lap Swimming

Lap Swimming

I wish I had thought of this when I was going through W/D (mid-January)...but, I recently discovered that lap swimming is great for getting a good night's sleep...and, would probably be a help for restless legs.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who are going through W/D.  Let me reassure you, when you come out of the tunnel at the other end, it is a great life.

Congratulations on week 14.  I am so jealous!  So tell the truth...how bad are the withdrawals.  Tell me exactly what to expect.  I just found this forum recently.  Let me tell you my story......I guess I first started taking pain meds when I had a kidney stone. I thought they were the greatest thing in the world. They helped the pain and made me feel like I could take on the world. I had so much energy. Energy I needed just to be sane. I was in the middle of a nasty divorce and was very depressed. The pain meds made me feel alive again - at least for a while. I guess at first i didnn't take enough to have bad withdrawals, because when I ran out, I did okay. So I took them off and on for about two years. I started back to school at 29 and worked during the day and went to school at night. I had gotten a bad cold and my doctor gave me Tussinex. It was liquid heaven.  I teach 5th grade and suddenly found myself having to have the monsters to get me through the day.  I've tried to stop off and on, but am always summoned back.  I feel ashamed, guilty, scared, and weak.  I have stolen from my husband, father, and friends to buy Lorocet 10's.  I have paid as much as $7 for them.  So...tell me what to expect.

What you have/are experiencing is quite common...10 years of it for me.  We all came to rely on pills to get us through the day and make us feel whole....or, so we thought.

For me, W/D was hell.  No energy, no sleep, and all the symptoms for about 7 days.

I can assure you that you will eventually have more energy, sleep through the night, regain clear thinking, and wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and looking forward to a day free of drugs.   The key is to keep in mind that W/D and recovery are a slow process not a sudden event.  Recovery sneaks up on you.

Stick with this Forum.  The members were a great help to me.

Good luck.

I've caught a few of your posts and understand you are getting a handle on all the challenges you and your son face.

I recall your first post when you first learned of Christian's Dx.  I suggested you become the family "health educator" and I sincerely hope it gave you a better sense of having some control over the situation.

I am now swimming laps at Noon every M-W-F.   I am the only male in a pool with a dozen young women which makes all my male friends feel jealous.  The fact be known, the swimming is so difficult that all I can think about is getting finished, going home, and taking a nap.

Best wishes.  I am keeping you and your son in my prayers.

Cordially,
GEORGE
