Lexapro for Klonopin W/D?

I had previously sent a question describing my terrible symptoms I am experiencing with being off klonopin.  I took it for 3 years @ .5mg a day, and have stopped for 18 months now.  I tapered very slowly when doing this.  Anyways, I saw my doctor and told him about my problems.  He totally agreed with me that the klonopin usage for that long can cause problems.  I told him I am experiencing terrible withdrawals and he suggested using the anti-depressant called "Lexapro".  While he suggested to do this I am not sure if I should.  He did say that the plan was to monitor me.  It supposedly takes a few weeks to work and will be decided down the road if this can help.  He did mention that this drug is not habit forming but still use caution if it is decided to stop.  Anyways, does anyone have any comments on this.  Can a anti-depresant like Lexapro help with the protracted withdrawals?  Any comments are appreciated.  Thanks

i am currently taking 6mg a day at night for RLS, doc prescribed it for me (the same doc) who dropped me as a  patient. i currently have 4 refills left, and then no more, i need to find a doc who will either help me get off of them, or  continue to prescribe them to me for the RLS. You could possibly die if you quit c/t, any doc will tell you that you need a doc to help you get off them.

I was on 10 mg. of lexapro and when i was having terrible anxiety from the suboxone withdrawals my dr. upped it to 20mg.  It has helped me tremendously, no more anxiety.  I don't know too much about the klonopin, although my husband does ocassionally take one when he has anxiety. He suffers with PTSD.  If it would only help with my sleep now i would be SET!  Good luck to you. TJack

wow--Ok i have experience with both..i went c/t from klonopin after the about the same time of usage as you, but a little higher in mg...
Well the w/d's were horrible...and i never told anyone, and didnt' realize i could of died....i know there were nights that i think i could of had a seizure, i just didn't know what was going on....and doc never told me not to get off etc...Well when i finally could not take it anymore and went to a doctor he put me on lexapro, i felt so much better in about 4 days..Now here is the tough one,  it is very hard to get off of lexapro too, kind of feels the same except for a weird feeling in your head , kind of like electricity can't explain it...For me i have depression,, i don't plan on getting off until i know i can through thearpy....now if you are not depressed i WOULD NOT get on it...
i am here if you have any questions, i would be glad to help

I don't have any experience with it for withdrawal.

Please be patient, the forum is slow today. Someone will be along that can probably answer your question.

Take care.
