Liver Damage?

Okay first of all I so wanna be done with pills, they are ruining my life.

Okay so I have fibromyalgya and thats how I got addicted to tramadol well the tram ran out and I could not get a refill until the 11th well I had a whole perscription of vicodin and I started taking that 5/500 between 9-12 a day... 3 days ago I took 6, 2 days ago I took 12 and yesterday I took 11 today I took 8. I'm trying so hard. I go back to the dr. in a few days and I am going to talk to her. My question is I'm scared I hurt my liver. I dont see how though. I used to take vicodin alot before and it never did anything to my liver. But all the sudden I got this weird pain in my upper right stomach (however I do have a histroy of ulcers) I dont have any other signs of acteametaphin poising i'm not sick or vommiting or anything like that I'm not jaundace. So how likley is it that I hurt my liver? And if I did hurt my liver is it likely it will get better by itself? Any advice will be greatly appriciated. I'm just a little scared. I'm trying so hard to get though a diffucult time in my life and I dont even know where to start!

I do not know how this came up but I thought I would update it since it is here.. After I stopped drugging and drinking almost 6 years ago I took Motrin for the pain. Well the Motrin finished off my kidney and I went into failure around July 2013. I'm now on dialysis 3 days a week 3 and1/2 hours sessions. I'm waiting for a referral for UCSF to treat my Hep C while on dialysis. They would like to cure it before a kidney transplant.. So far my liver is still hanging at stage 2. My advice to anyone with Hep C fight it as soon as you can They are learning a lot about it and how it effects us and the New drugs that are coming out can be tailored and are a bit kinder.. If you use Motrin Do not use for more then 2 weeks without a break and drink a lot of water flush flush and flush some more, I'm not the only person who has lost their kidneys to Motrin My kidney Dr. has a class where he is educating Dr.'s on the Dangers of Motrin and the Kidneys..  Take care and treat yourself well. lesa

Hi Releaseme.. It is strange that this popped up and you ask this at this time. For a long time I have done nothing to help the Hep C but quit drinking quit drugs ate healthy  exercised.. i felt pretty good except the pain i deal with.. then things started to go down hill. I started having flares with liver mood swing swelling foggy ect. then tendons started to hurt in my arm my groin and back now I'm experiencing pain in joints and so on.. 11 years ago when i biopsied they could do nothing for me as I only have 1 kidney that is at stage 3 except to take care of myself. now my Dr. has me set to see a GI Dr. as they have made advances in treatment. shorter duration and drugs that are a lil kinder to the kidney. as he says it will be a sacrifice for the long term gain.. they are now finding some Hep C crosses the blood brain barrier and can effect just about everything about you.. I'm going to try to get treatment for what I have been experiencing is scarey.... I will send a prayer that you get up the courage to fight this disease for it is constantly working constantly changing and it effects all our organs not just the liver.. we are also at a higher risk of Liver cancer.. another good reason to beat it if you can.. I wish you the very best. lesa

I also had pain in my liver. Scared me. I started taking livatone plus from liverdoctor.com (http://www.liverdoctor.com/shop/supplements/102-fatty-liver-special.html) and I truly believe it saved my life.

so what are you doing about your hep c? I chose to do nothing about mine for now. I'm afraid of what I hear about the interferon, so I don't drink alcohol much anymore, however, i take percs every damn day. It's hard to stop because they do give me energy and a sense of normacy, but I know this phase of addiction must end.  Its' been too many years (about 3) and cost too much money!! I hate that I'm in this mess and will continue to pray that God takes the desire away from me....that's the only thing that I believe will help.
Again, what have/are you doing about your hep c?.  I'm living with it and am okay for now.

I am almost day 2 clean. A couple of more hours. I tried the tapering thing, and it didn't work for me. The next time I got my Rx, I just started overdoing it again. The withdrawals do such! But everyone on this forum has been so helpful with telling  me things I could do to make them a little better. Good Luck with what you are going through.

Thank you fairydust.. I feel good so no worries :) our stomach is up of our bellies so you may be correct.. ulcers are no fun either.. ya know I have used that phrase myself I used pills just to feel normal.. boy was I wrong on the normal part.. I was anything but normal.. addiction smothers our emotions.. we are so so numb.. and we are turned inwards..we do not see. "really" see what we do to ourselves our familys/friends. they feel the detachment.. our self involvement. they see no sparkle in our eyes..  You can do this. You can get your life back.. our minds are very powerful used to get through wd makes it beatable..

As others have said the only true way to figure out if anything is wrong with your liver is for Liver Function Tests to be requested from a blood sample.

However, for what it's worth I think it's really unlikely you have liver damage. Your symptoms don't suggest it, and if you're sticking to 4 grams (8 tabs) a day, your liver should cope with that.  If high doses in the past had damaged your liver you'd have seen signs before now.

That's not to say that it couldn't happen in the future, especially if your dose goes up again.

So well done for recognising your problem and for your decision to start tapering.  You know it won't be easy but it will be worth it.  Good luck.

Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry that you have liver and kindey damage. The only thing I have is a pain in my upper right belly (I was having trouble a while back though in my stomach in that area and it turned out I had an ulcer, so perhaps its back). Its not swollen or extended and I'm not sick or throwing up or tired or anything. I am def. going to talk to the dr. about this I cannot do this anymore. I dont want to have to need pills to get though my day to just feel "normal". Its really depressing. I cant wait until this whole crap is over.

Hi FairyDust25, I'm glad to read you will be speaking with your Dr. The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol.. your liver is amazing that it can heal itself but only if you do not cross the line.. get a blood screen. get honest. make a decision to take your life back.. not only do we give our health to addiction we give everything else we treasure.. I wish you well on your journey.. lesa

I know no one on the internet can tell me if I damaged my liver, I was just asking what is the liklihood that I may have? Like has anyone been in this situation before?? I really do think if my liver was damaged I would be alot more sick. But I dont know for sure. I was just asking if anyone has had experience with this. I am so sick of pills ruining my life and I cant wait to be done with them. I wish I would never have picked up one to begin with.

Thank you everyone for you posts. I absoultely do want to get off the pills and am going to ask my dr if I can start a taper. I know what withdrawl feels like and I'm hoping I can reduce the effects by a taper. But the ultimate goal for me is to put down the pills completely. I hate pills so much they are ruining my life. Everything I do revloves around pills and it needs to stop. I feel so bad that I got myself into this mess and I cant wait to have my life back. My family moved away and I dont really have any friends which is why I'm so glad I found this fourm. Because sometimes I just need to talk to someone. My husband is extreamly supportive but he doesnt really totally understand what I'm up agenist here.

4000mg of apap is the toxic amount and most physicians want to keep that around 2000mg per day.  Everything about the drug is bad and the opiate is harmful to the liver as well.
As IBK said:"Stop over thinking it"...and get well.    xo

Have you thought about getting of of the pills altogether? Is this what you gonna talk to your doctor about? Welcome to the forum there is a lot of support here. I am not the one to ask about the liver damage but I  sure others on here will respond to your post who do know more getting it checked oviously is a must as no one can know for sure. Becca

First off, stop over thinking it. You need to get a good check up complete with blood work. It is impossible for anyone on the internet to tell you if you have liver damage or not. And yes,t eh liver does begin to heal itself when you put down the drugs.

Right now focus on getting off the killer pills and you won't have to worry about anything else. Keep up the taper and talk as you go along.

Now calm down and work on the task at hand before you make yourself crazy over this. ok?

What my doctors have told me is that I can't go over 4000 of Aceptemein (spelling) a day. I have been taking more than the 4000 a day for over 5 years now and my liver is fine. I am on my second day of pill free and loving it! Good luck to you and hopefully you can talk to you doctor about it!

Hey~ So much of this depends on genetic factors so it's hard to predict. Try not to worry. When you see the doctor ask her to order a liver function test. That's a very accurate way to test for damage.

I know you're trying so hard here but going up and down with the vicodin is very rough on your body.  Try to stick to one amount per day and don't exceed it.

Good luck~
