Liver health

Hi
I have a question about liver health.
Does any one know anything about how long or if your liver would start to recover after prolonged abuse of pain-killers?
I worry every day about this and I need any info on this PLEASE...
if anyone can help

the liver has an amazing ability to regenerate itself to some extent. when i was using alot my lfts were badly off, then i had a period clean and they returned to normal, however you can push it past a certain limit and it can fail. were that limit is im afraid i dont know.
the quicker we can get clean the better for our livers but.....thats so hard, for me anyway. you take care see your doc, louise

When your lfts were off, did you feel any symptoms at all?

I'd like to some answers to this too.  How long after I've detoxed can I "casually" go into my PCP and ask for a check up - without worrying my labs will come back with bad liver numbers.

While we are waiting for the others who know more than us....my sister was in the hospital with liver failure.  She was so jaudiced.  She's 55 and had denied drinking problem for years.  Without a drop of liquor and a serious vitamin routine (which is all she could do about it) she got her labs normal in six weeks.  This just happen so I don't know the long term, but it's been encouraging.

hi guys, when my lfts were bad i was actually symptom free, so feeling ok doesnt mean your lfts are normal.if i remember correctly my bloods were hugely improved at 1 month and back to normal at 2 months. soprano, thats amazing that your sis was able to get back to good health again, its very encouraging and i quess more testimony to the regenerative power of the liver.louise

I have been abusing pills for a few years.  Up to 20/day (that's 10,000mg of tylenoll! Yuk!)  Towards the end, I found myself throwing up for no reason. It would just come over me, but I didn't have any flu or stomach virus.  That is a sign that you are going down a bad road. My fingers on the right hand also were going numb.

Look for signs - but just know that your liver can really only handle 4,000mg of tylenol per day. If you are going over that... you should cut back.  If you are not sure how much, your pills may be 7/325 (norco's) or 10/500 (loratabs). The second number is the mg of tylenol. Just figure out how much you are taking per day and you will get an idea of how much you are abusing your liver.

I've been taking the vitamins in the Amino Acid Protocal (http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Addiction/Amino-Acid-Protocol/show/15?cid=66) and they have help SO MUCH.  My feeling is back in my fingers (came back after a week) and I feel great.

Hope this helps.

Hi all
Thank you all for your help.
I am in South Africa so I was just just wondering what are Loritabs and tylenol, Are they paracetomol based?
I was just interested to know, I would like to compare them to the stilpane.
thanks for this site, it is helping me alot and is very encouraging

Lortab is a pain killer in the same family of vodin and hidrocodone.  When it is prescribed in liquid form, it also contains Tylenol (your typical over the counter medicine for headaches).  When you use this medicine for a prolonged amount of time it will affect your liver and will create a nasty depedency, very hard to overcome.

There are supplements designed to support liver function. They help the liver work better and to detox the body. Health foods stores carry them.
