Long-time user of Darvocet

Hi,
I was on Darvocet for over 8 yrs for severe menstrual cramps.  I realized 2 wks ago that I had a problem with being addicted to the medication (calmed me and gave me a sense of well-being.)  I went off it "cold turkey"  Went thru classic symptoms, but was wondering, how long can it take to feel "ok" again-grounded and not spaced-out?  will it take longer than 2 wks for me, since I have been on it so long?  My doc gave me tramadol to take for the cramps, but haven't tried it yet.  Is it effective?

Hi~    It will,generally,take longer than 2 weeks to feel good.  Everyday it gets better and better,though!
Listen,do some research on your own about Tramadol. I don't want to go against your doctor BUT many,many folks have become horribly addicted to this med.  It contains an antidepressant,also.   Have you tried Motrin@800mgs,3x per day?  It can be very effective;it inhibits prostaglandins that tend to increase the pain of cramping.

Hello and welcome to the forum.. Congratulations on quitting the darvocet.. You should be feeling better mentally soon everyone is different but a month 6 weeks most start to feel much better.. it is good you are not taking the tramadol.. you would just be trading addictions with the added quality of a benzo.. from everything I have read they are very difficult to get off of and mentally more severe.. walking exercising diet is what you can do to speed up the process.. you need to get those feel good endorphins pumping on there own you have replaced them with the drugs for 8 years.. You are doing great ! give it a lil more time ok and do not take the trams. lesa
