Lorcets slow down metabolism (do they make you fat)?

Hi Duchess, I just got up and weighed myself and it reminded me of another question I have.  Do lorcets slow down your metabolism?  I'm not really overweight but I weigh more than I'd like to and what I'm used to - about 8 pounds that I just can't seem to shake or if I do, I have to work hard to keep it off.  Again, this coincides with my starting lorcets AND my change in my lifestyle.  When I was single I bought food on an "as needed" basis and my refridgerator contained, more often than not, a couple of beers, coffee, sugar, an orange and water (drove my dad nuts when he visited).  Now, of course, we have food and even though we eat well (fresh, good food), there's still more of it than I had before.  Also, this one's kinda tough so I'll just blurt it out - does it have an effect on your, uh, intimate desires?

Thanks for your answers - this is really helping me sort out some issues that I've spent alot of time thinking about.  It's not something I can talk about with even closest friend because, unless you experience it, you can't possibly understand.  That's another great reason for this forum - people understand and have experienced what you're going through - I'm a baby compared to what some people go through.  But like I said before, I see myself in alot of what I read here.

Hi there--I don't have any medical evidence, but trust me, these things mess with your metabolism. I'm on day 4 cold turkey from vicoprofen, and I feel like I woke up in a body that's 40 pounds heavier than I remember. When the pills made me happy, I would eat because I thought I would enjoy it more. But, problem is, I never went to work it off.

Trust me, working out doesn't make a difference.  I'm a runner and late last year took up spinning & pilates.  While these certainly make me feel good, they don't help with getting/keeping the weight off.  I've never had a problem with weight or losing a few pounds (and keeping it off) if I needed to but since I started taking lorcet, all that changed.  It's just more difficult to maintain weight.  I've heard lorcet can slow down metabolism but the source wasn't a medical professional so I wasn't sure if it was true or not.  It's frustratiing!!!

I don't know if they slow down your metabolism but they do mess with your digestive system......ummmm.....the constipation thing you know??!!  I am not a medical professional but it would make sense that if things aren't flowing out like they should then you would probably gain weight.  Have you been careful to make sure that you aren't constipated?  That is pretty much an across the board side effect of pain meds.  You have increase your fiber and water intake.  And stool softeners as well.  If I remember correctly because of your name, :) you are only taking two a day, right?  That is still enough to cause constipation or at least make your body not work as efficiently.  It is really messed up because pain meds cause constipation and constipation causes people with certain types of pain like back pain, etc. have WORSE pain.  So it is important to stay on top of that kind of thing.  I have known of people being hospitalized from being severely constipated from narcotics (they were using them properly for a deadly illness) and was so sad because they were already so sick.  The doctor never mentioned anything to them about the constipation thing so I just thought I would share that.  Some people only need increased fiber and water and stool softeners and some need more depending on their dosage.  Of course, check with your doctor to find out what is best for you.

Twoaday, what are you taking your meds for?
