Lortab

Lortab

My dentist prescribed Lortab for me after a small dental surgery. I've taken stronger pain killers before and have not really enjoyed the affects, but I really like Lortab. It doesn't upset my stomach and I feel very good on it. I only take it at night before bed because it helps me go to sleep. I've had insomnia for years and this is the first thing I've ever found that helps. I go to sleep with no problem, and wake up early the next day feeling fine. It also decreases my hunger at night which is great. I take two a night. So my questions are: 1) is this abuse and 2) could this harm me in any way?

Hi welcome to the forum

yes, this is abuse and it could harm you and in fact, it is already harming you because you are using them in a way that it is not intended to.... it is already harming you because it is making you feeling better ( for a while )and it is harming you because it is making you believe that it is the only thing you have found to help you with sleep, even with your weight is helping,....

soon you will need more and you will start taking it during the day too, your tolerance will increase...Abusing is always progressive, it never stops at 2 pills...don't think, please, that you can control your use, it is not possible, they affect our brain receptors and you will need more and more  .....when we start abusing them, it is not because we are looking for being addicts and feeling miserable at the end of the rope.... it is because someone has given them to us for whatever the reason and we found better with them...they help us with our daily pains, our emotional pains, our daily problems....we wrongly medicate ourselves and  we say to ourselves, ok, i can't sleep and this is helping me and wow... it is helping me with weight..... Those lies will soon take over your life so, please, stop asap !!!!! :)

you are on time to stop them, do it , please.

For how long have you been taking them, lucy ?

This sounds very familiar and I wish I would have had this site back when I was at this point.  Now, years later and thousands of dollars spent of pills, methadone treatment and recovery aids, I have finally learned the truth.  I hope that it does not take you down the same journey to get to this desitination.

It will only be mildly uncomfortable right now if you stopped, but in time it will become a beast.  You should consider taking melatonin for a natural sleep aid.

Thanks for your responses. Last night I didn't take anything. I went right back to insomnia unfortunately.

If you have taken them for any amount of time you must realize that insomnia is a symptom of withdrawal in and of itself. If something that affects euphoria helps you sleep maybe using 5 htp will help you... it calms anxiety by helping with seratonin levels.

abuse?
Not taking them for the reason intended which is true pain..i guess is abuse
One of the most addicting things for most folks is to rely on sumpin for sleep
People can even get mentally addicted to nyquil or benadryl by using it for sleep altho better than using a physically addicting substance like narcotics.

No one can tell u if u have a problem cept u...but perhaps u need to look into the source of ur insomnia....often it can be corrected in safer ways
good luck to u
