MS Contin Sucks!

MS Contin Sucks!

The doctor switched me from (3) 10mg Percocet a day to (1) 30mg MS Contin every 12 hours.  At first I had high expectations for pain relief but these things are HORRIBLE!  I feel like I'm in a trance all day long, I fell like I'm going to throw up but never do and I'm awfully sleepy.

No real question here I just wanted to "vent".  They do help with the pain but the side effects just aren't hardly worth it.  I have break through pain about every 3 hours but have nothing to take when it creeps up.

Yuck!  They're bad enough that I don't take my "night time" tablet.  I'm supposed to take 1 in the morning and 1 before bed.  I take 1 in the morning and that's it.  Anyway....  that's all....

I had a recent discectomy at L5/S1 and had a few complications.  It took care of the Sciatica in my leg but left me with horrible back pain.  The doctor is trying to find the right pain medication for my back.  This MS Contin is the worst one so far.  It helps with the pain but I don't like to feel drugged which this drug does.

I'm going to have another MRI soon to determine whether or not the disc has re-herniated.  I've called my doctor and explained my hesitance about MS Contin so maybe there is another option.  I'm still waiting for a return phone call.

Very commmon side effect from the MS it did it to me too (along with the breathing problems). The trance like feeling DID go away for me though, after about 3 or 4 days on it as my body adjusted. Maybe try to stick it out a few more days and see if it helps you better or not.   I also couldnt take my PM dose of it due to the depressed respirations.  ANd I like you, did have break thru pain. It sucks because the BAD SIDE EFFECTS last the whole 12 hours of the dosage, but the pain relieving effects only last about 2 or 3 hours.

You are not going to get the same feeling you got with the oxycodone, like the energy and euphoria.
The above people are right about the body adjusting to the med. It does work on pain though. Give it a chance. Do not chew them because you main overdose as morphine does effect the respiratory system more so than other opiates------------NOAH

ive chewed a plenty of em and never even got high. Like 2 or 3 at a time. Whats up with those things anyway? I guess its good that it doesnt make you high cuz we all know what happens to us when pills make us feel good. The vicodin makes me sick now. Aint that a riot?

be careful maybe that is your bodys way of knowing those things are horrible.  That is what i am getting off of now and it was nothing like when i went off percocet.  These things are really really powerful.  Are you planning on taking them for a long time?  I did ct wd off 10 percs a day and it was pure H e l l but it was over in 7 days.  this time coming off oxycontin i am on day 26 and still am in physical wd.  I was already addicted after my first prescription and i should have learned from that but i didn't.  Keep this in mind as i would not even recommend these to my worse enemy when it is time to come off of them.  My b/f stole one of my 40mgs once and he was so ill, he threw up all day and night, at the time i was take 5 ea of them per day.  everyone is different, so if you are only going to be on these for a short period be really careful as the wd are severe!!!!  good luck.

Ugh, that stuff is horrible.  It was one of the many meds my doctor tried for me...I had blurry vision, hot/cold flashes, and had the strongest sense of being outside of myself.  Too weird for me, and didn't even help my pain, to boot.
