MS Contin (morphine sulfate)

MS Contin (morphine sulfate)

Hi everyone!  My Medicaid Dr. put me on this drug after years of Norco because Medicaid pays for this completely.  Does anyone know if this is a sronger medicine / will it be more difficult to handle withdrawals if I choose to stop it?  I was taking 10 mg. Norco every 4 hrs. and now I am on 30 mg MSContin every 12 hrs.  Thanks!!

My friend just got put on the same.  Her dct told her it is stronger, which is why he wants her on it.  He's trying to get it to where she will take less meds everyday so he's giving her a stronger med.  Idk how it's gonna work.  I hope it works for both of you guys

Thanks for your post!  It does seem stronger to me - the pain relief definitely last longer which is great but I am just so worried about eventually getting off the drug being a nightmare.

I amnot too sure. That's probably going to depend on how long you're going to be taking it.  Pills weren't really my thing so I'm not sure abt tje withdrawls.  I'm sure somebody her can tell you more. :). I have know people on morphine based pills and even though their dcts tell them that is was less addictive they always got hooked and it was never easy for them to get off.  I hope someone can help you more than I have.

Honestly, this question should be posted in the "Pain Management" forum. There are a TON of helpful folks on there that can answer this question.

As for my personal experience... if you're taking Norco or MS Contin as prescribed, the w/d's should be minimal and not all together too uncomfortable (especially if you tapper off one and move to the other). I've taken both Norco & MS Contin, as prescribed (yeah, yeah... I know...an addict taking medication "as prescribed is impossible", but there WAS a time when I was "normal!!!), and as I stuck to the prescription regimen, my w/d symptoms were almost non-existent.

As for stopping your MS Contin... why would you do that? You're obviously being prescribed it for a reason (chronic pain of some type, I would assume), so stopping would more than likely go against what your doctor is treating you for.

Try the Pain-Management forum, and good luck to you in your search.
