Made it to day 6

by dochollywood, Nov 07, 2009 08:48AM
I can't believe I did it and I feel a whole lot better this morning.  Might even go for a hike.

I just want to share my recipe for success (only 6 days, but heh!).  I am learning the lingo on this site.  I specified a "quit date" about 3 months ago and I took a week off of work.  I knew I wouldn't be able to work.  I also told myself that if I blew it, I wouldn't have another chance to get clean for months and that if I made it to New Year's clean, wow, I would be soo proud of myself, but still I was going to take it a day at a time.

Day before I quit, I was so anxious that I would fail. First day wasn't that bad probably because drugs were weaing off still.  Day 2 couldn't get comfortable, RLS, fatigue, didn't answer my phone (except when my boyfriend called and then I told him I was sick with the flu).

Day 3 I thought may have been the worst, but in a different way than day 2, different symptoms with some brief periods in which I felt ok.  Day 4 slightly better, Day 5 80% ok.  That was yesterday.  I forced myself to get out of the house and I went to see the Michael Jackson movie (marvelous) and then I went and had a massage, which helped.  Then seems, unfortunately that I picked up a bug on top of this because fever and productive cough started and I felt like I had the real flu (hopefully not the H1N1, but could be).  Didn't seem like symptoms of WD.

But wow, I made it to day 6 and I am soo proud of that and I'm taking a day at a time.  I was taking 6-7 10 mg norco's per day before I quit, for about 5 years.  And that length of time makes it harder to go thru WD.

Didn't take any ativan or benzos, just took some ambien for sleep which helped some.  Lots of high dose motrin and Zytrec and also I was making banana, blueberry yogurt smoothies for the potassium.

So I just wanted to share my success!

Congrats on 6 days clean and I am glad your feeling better this morning. You sound so positive and that helps too. Enjoy your hike, life is great clean and sober. Your doing great!

Great for you!! Just wonderfu!! To tell u the truth, when I was tapering from subs and would start getting uncomfortable feeling, I would pop in my Michael Jackson CD and I always felt better! :) Just something about his music...gives me energy!

Well, I seem to be getting a cold/flu now but whatever.  That's actually not that bad to deal with compared to WD.  No skin crawling or restless legs, just coughing and starting to bring up phlegm.  Guess I wore my immune system down.

Anyway, I loved MJ.  He was a drug addict for so many years with an amazing tolerance, but what a talent.  I think he's the most talented person that I have seen in my lifetime.  And we all miss him.

I did run into him once, on the steet, and nobody was around, except he had a friend with him.  He was probably 25 years old.  He could have been a jerk to another annoying fan, but no, what a sweet soul and what a gentleman.

I think I'm going to see the movie again.
