Mega Weight loss on Methdone

Hi, I am not a methadone patient but I am a very concerned girlfriend of a 30 year old male who has been on the methadone program for the last few years. And as I seen here in the comments most of everyone on the methadone program has gained a significant amount of weight but on the other hand, My boyfriend is now on 9 mg and has lost a significant amount of weight since Christmas 2014, he was 154 and now down to 129, and it concerns me that he might be sick with cancer, or its just a side affect from the meds because he is now literally skin and bones no muscle feeling at all when I touch him or cuddle him, it freaks me out for him to be this way. So my question is how can one gain back the weight that he lost, is it even possible? Will he die like this? Please help me I need some answers

i have gained over 100lbs being on methadone, going up to and staying on 135mgs for most of that time. Anyway, since January 2015, i went down to 85mgs, which I have stayed on ever since. I had hoped that one side went down in dose that I would go down in my way… But it has been over six months now and I have may be lost about 10 pounds. I am SOO miserable- not only because of the weight gain, but the methadone has definitely given me a number of negative side effects.   The program that I go to makes it very difficult if you tell them you want to come off or want to try and taper down… They don't really help you they just say OK well will lower your dose whenever you want. There is no like taper down program, and it *****! I went down to 75mgs a few weeks back, and was SOOO sick, i had to go back up to 85. I feel completely trapped and like I have no source of getting help. The only thing that I'm thinking about doing is switching to Suboxone, which I know is not easy and comes with a brand-new set of problems and issues. Any suggestions, advice or help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!!!

Hi & Welcome :)

M'done messes with your thyroid. Most gain some weight, others however can go in the opposite direction.

The first thing you have to make sure of (especially since he's on such a low dose & probably tapered to it) is that he's not using again. If he's been chipping, that might explain the loss. Also, I started to loose serious weight as I tapered & my metabolism sped up.

What dose did he start off? Does he plan to come off completely? Are there any other symptoms that concern you? Have you expresses your concerns to him? If so, what was his reaction?

Please, let us know what you're feeling & keep posting :)
