Melatonin for sleep

Some possibly interesting info....When I stopped Methadone and Vicadin 25 days ago I had the usual trouble sleeping. I saw a lot of people recommending Melatonin. My doctor also recommended it

Now,this is my experience and I am no expert. But every am, I have been dealing with pretty major depression and waking up to racing heart. I've also been getting bad headaches. I know depression goes with opiate withdrawal but I really felt something .ore was going on.

I talked to an herbal specialist and then did my own research. Melatonin is actually a hormone that causes depression quite often....and headaches and other problems.

Now if it works for you great but I just wanted to share this info because if this has been worsening my depression, I wish I had known. I just wanted sleep so bad and thought it was good I was taking a natural product.

Everyone isn't themselves in the morning our bodies our looking for the pill. You get so use to sleeping on them your body panics when your not on them. You never randomly woke up at night and just thought " pills" and had to go take some to go back to bed? Just hang in there I can tell it's scaring you just know it gets better im on day 34 and it only happens twice a week for 10 second at a time. I get 6 hours of sleep each night before my body wakes up wanting a fix. 6 hours is a blessing though! Hang in there

Yes. I think you're right jifmoc. I didn't take the Melatonin last night. My mood was a bit lighter today but I still had the racing heart.

But can someone tell me please??? Is this normal? It's always in the morning when I wake up. Today my Heart Rate was 120bpm.  And once I'm up and around for the day it does even out and doesn't happen again until the next morning.  I get that a racing heart is part of detox but it doesn't make sense that it's always just in the morning.

Sleep is a big problem for most people in withdrawal.  Kind of old fashioned and it's not to everyone's palate but warm milk actually really works.  When you hear up the milk, it produces L-tryptoline, which is also in turkey and it's one of the things hat makes people sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner.

That's interesting, I've been taking melatonin for over a year (since getting clean) and I still feel mentally blah a lot. I wonder if that is a contributing factor. Thanks for the info.

Btw, your racing heart is from detox. At 25 days, you are still in wd even though less acute. It is very normal and it will slowly but surely pass.

I meant to add....Since I've been tracking my progress I know that my racing heart has been happening every morning just about exactly 7 hours after I took the Melatonin.
