Methadone Clinics

I have been on methadone for the past 5 years.  My dose is approximately 70 mgs. I have been on the same dose for over 3 years. The clinic i go to makes it very hard for you to get your dose raised. Don't people build up a tolerance? I know the suspicions that the clinic might have for raising your dose but after awhile isn't it necessary too? Or should i just tough it out and wait until I'm going through major withdrawals? Thanks for any answers anyone can help with! B.

hi brooke,
if you are taking sleeping pills and trying to get that sleepy feeling, i think that would indicate you still like to and want to get high. what kind of sleeping pills are you taking? you have to be careful, methadone is a depressant and if you mix another depressant it could be dangerous.

maybe you need to change up your counseling, a different counselor, maybe someone outside the clinic, more support groups, besides na or aa (12 step programs) there is also smart recovery (behavior modification)

working a recovery program requires a change in thinking, things that you did associated with using,in general lifestyle changes, many people use a workout routine, healthy eating, counseling with a spiritual leader, attending church. everyone has a different approach to their recovery road but the end result is still the same, to stay clean and sober. it is a marathon not a sprint.
you have been on meth for 5 years and yes it can turn into another 5.
my husband was on it for 10 years. one year turned into 2, 2 turned into 3 and so on, the end result 10. it is a slow and long taper. most people take about a year to get off of it.
stick around the forum and read there are usually alot of people on here who are on methadone, have been or are trying to get off.
hope and hugs
debbie

i have been getting counseling since ive been there. i go one time a month with my main counselor and then a support group 1x a week. so i def feel ive been working through it. i have noticed though that i have been taking sleeping pills lately and trying to get that sleepy feeling. i have never done this in the last five years so i dont know why im doing it now. i do want to get off but im just to damn scared. im worried even with all the counseling i will slowly go back to what got me here. i dont know if i should increase the mg or decrease and try to get off or what. im just lost on the whole thing. maybe i should just stand still on the topic. but i don;t want another 5 yrs to go by.

brooke,
how are things going for you? have you gotten any counseling during your 5 years on the methadone? have you attended any support groups?
are you feeling tempted? is that why you want to increase your dose?
have you considered getting off the meth?

well i dont know if i should or should not increase it. ive been on the same dose for years. after awhile you build up a tolerance right? i can feel it wearing off in the mornings but then i just take my next days dose. so i guess my question is if you have been on the same dose for years should i just ask for an increase?

So, what you're wanting is to increase your Mwthadone ? Is that right?
