Methadone Taper

OK so I have fought addiction with opiates for years now and back in Feb I started a Methadone program, I was up to 100 mgs a day and was like a zombie, I have now been tapering down and am at 59 mg/day which I just went down to on monday,  I am so sick of being on this methadone but I know it is better than snorting oxy and Opana and I have been able to stay on Methadone without relapsing on other stuff since I started.   question, should I just stick out the Methadone taper or should I switch to suboxone and finish tapering with that?  I am so sick of being tired all the time and falling asleep at work,  Since I started the Methadone I stopped going to the Gym and going out with my friends,  even as an oxy addict and Opana addict I still had a social life but now I see it as a healing process to be bymyself but I have been gradually taking care of things in my life and am now ready to be totally clean without any substances.......any advice would truly help me out........For all you out there struggling if I CAN do it anybody can and I pray you hang in there because no matter how bad you think you are, until your dead it can always get worse, and sometimes death would seem easier but fight for your right to be happy, fight your addiction with your most dying efforts because thats what addiction is a dying effort of trying to stay High all of the time.  There is a better life around the corner but you are on your own in making the effort to get there, I have been in dark places and thought I would never be as far as I am today, but even still I know how easily addiction could take away all of my progress.

We see quite a bit of this lack of enthusiasm for life with Methadone patients that come in for detoxification Methadone is an extremely strong narcotic that numbs most of your senses , including the pleasure ones. I hear patients telling me all the time that a decade pass by them while on Methadone and they don’t remember much. Don’t lose hope , there are medical treatments to get you completely off all narcotics available…There is a light in the end of the tunnel. Don’t give up on feeling, that is what life is all about.

THanks I appreciate it, I am down to 59 mgs and am going down 10% ev monday and have been since I was up to 100 mgs a day so I have come down like that in the last couple months,    I am ready to be done with the Methadone but I know I will still get sick if I stop taking them.  I am considering going on Suboxone for the rest of the Taper if I can get a hold of some.   I am still far away from where I was a year ago, Opana, Ocy, Heroin,    yeah I dont miss that lifestyle at all, however I dont love my current lifestyle either, driving 45mins one way to the Methadone clinic ev day mon-friday, its a big pain when you have a child and work full time......I am coming around the bend I can almost see it now but not yet ;-\

Just a reminder that posting tapering doses or schedules is not allowed on our site.  Tapering should be done under the care of a doctor, and tapering can affect other medical conditions, even ones a person may not yet be aware they have.
