Methadone and detoxing

I have been on methadone for a 1 1/2 yrs. The reason for this was to take control of my life. I feel ready to detox now and i have started the process coming down 5 mgs. a week.  So far I have come down 20 mgs. and no symptoms yet but I am still at a pretty high dose. I am scared to death from all of the horror stories I have heard. Can someone please tell me what I can truly expect and what I can do to help this to be as comfortable an experience as possible. Any information would be helpful because I go to a methadone clinic and all they will tell me is that i will experience flu like symptoms.  Thank You and God Bless.

I have also been detoxing from methadone at 5mgs per week.  I was on 85mgs for around a year.  Now I am on 20mgs.  I have had little withdrawl symptoms except a little restlessness.  I dont feel much different on 20 than I did on 85.  Methadone clinics care only for your money.  Mine raised fees this week.  They let you get to a higher dose to make you think that you can't live without it.  If you are like me you probably didn't need to get to that high a dose anyway. Methadone is not insulin.  Stick with it and you will be free soon.

What you can expect is to feel as if you have the WORSE FLU EVER for no less than 6 days. It was 12 days for me. I'm almost a month clean from Methadone, now. Life is good, life is almost normal. I am not as energetic as I was, but it is slowly returning to me.
Here is a list of symptoms...
