Methadone,doing away w it!

Ive been on methadone for two years n clean from heroin bc of it,but i want off Methadone!im tired of having to go everyday and recently wass giving 2 mg. Clodopins n 1 mg zanax to help w my anxiety is that dangerous w my methadone,and how can i walk of the methadone or is it even possible!?

Hello and welcome to the forum! Were you giving these meds by a doctor? You should be very careful in taking xanax n klonopin with your methadone. They can cause respiratory depression and death. Once you quit and are no longer taking methadone you can take these meds to help with wd symptoms but they shouldnt be used while your still on it. Methadone is possible to quit although it is not easy. There are hundreds of members here who have successfully come off of methadone. Hopefully a few of them respond to you soon and can tell you how they were able to do it. You have to decide for yourself that you are ready to get off and are willing to do whatever to do it. Like I said its not easy and requires dedication and willpower. How many mg are you currently on? It is great that you were able to quit heroin. I quit heroin also although I did not use methadone I went ct off 2 grams iv a day. I did not want another monkey on my back and wanted to be done with it all as fast as possible. Did you get aftercare and therapy to find the reasons u were using heroin to begin with? Getting on methadone is half the battle the other half is to figure out why you abused drugs in the first place and how your going to change your ways. U dont want to quit methadone and go right back to heroin. In that case ud be better off staying on methadone. So make sure you have the proper care in place before putting yourself in that situation. Cravings have been kept away from the meth and that will all come back once yr off it. And its very very hard to do day to day I struggle with craving all the time and NA meetings and therapy have saved my llfe.
