Methadone main

by Ernie_420, Jul 03, 2009 09:24PM
I've been going to the clinic for about 2 months.  They have me on 70 mg/day and I feel pretty good.  The problem is that my counselor says I need 80- 100 mg/day to feel normal.  How do you tell these people what you want?  I don't want to be on this junk forever but want to stay on long enough to deal with my addiction.  Any help would be great about how long to go to the clinic and how to deal with the so-called counselors.

geez...my son worked at a methadone clinic for yrs..and many it has helped...i have used it for pain at 20 mgs a day..not long enuf for an addiction cos i am scared of the wd..it doesnt grab u overnight,,may even take longer than sub to grab u..the high is not there//for me anyway//wheras with sub i did get a high..but i do know if u go too high wds can be hell from methadone or sub...less can be better as long as cravings are controlled while u work thru ur issues..only u know this..if u feel u r at that dose..let ur clinic dr know this ,,communicate and get well....70 is not horrbly high..try not to go too much higher tho if u can..but u need to be at a dose that allows u to work thru ur issues without craving...be safe..keep posting

Were I you - if i felt good at that dose I would care less what they said ..... thats the goal ... any excess dose now is harder to quit later...... if you have been clean from everything else it would be up to you to decide when to start out..... usually need to lower dose by 10-15% per week or ten days......stick to percentages because its important toward the end of therapy - you dont want to get to even several mgs of meth and just quit - or you should just quit now....

Don't let some so called expert or anyone else tell you how much meth you need to feel normal. If 70 is working, stay with it. Buck the trend to go up up and away to mega dose land of 100-200 mg, or more. Once you get up much higher than 70, methadone is like a different drug in my experience. When I was on 110, I had terrible nightmares and a sedated kind of paranoia. I sweat like a pig and was a contipated duck. You don't want to be a contipated sweating zombie. all the best.

hi. the main reason i know of as to why they would be trying to up your dose, is because of failing to abstain from using other substances. most clinics use drug screens to gauge the effectiveness of dosage levels, as many people will continue to try to get high even on the methadone. once a certain receptor blocking level is reached, most folks (if they really want to stay clean) will be able to pass a drug screen and show that they are functioning ok in their daily lives. no matter what, you can not be forced to take more if you don't want to. best wishes,   gm

That's the only reason your dose should go higher, correct. If you are testing positive for opiates then you would probably need an increase. If you are testing positive for other drugs such as coke, benzos etc. The that's a different story. That's usually means you are a probably a opiate addict/poly drug abuser and in that case you probably won't be too succesfull on MMT (Methadone). I started off as a pure opiate-dope fiend and did very well the first few years on meth but then started taking benzos and for the next many years and many clinics I was on I always got into a lot of trouble with benzos and other drugs while on methadone. I have seen many methadonians do very poorly on MMT because they were boozers, or cokers or benzos and no dose of methadone they give you can block or make you stop those drugs. all the best

I have passed all my drug tests but they claim I won't be stabilized until I'm at 80-100 mg/day.  I feel great where I'm at so I'm goinig to stay there for a while and then start to taper off.  Thanks for the comments

You got the right idea. I don't know why they say that s#%t, it makes no sense and contributes to the problem of over sedated methadone clients that are sweating too much and are slugish and too contipated. all the best
