Methadone withdrawal

Hello,

I have been on 90 mg methadone for over 2 years. My doctor retired and now I am seeing a new doc. He wants me off the meth ASAP and on Nucynta. I have got myself down to 60mg a day. Today is Wed and he wants me completely off the done by Saturday and on the Nucynta.
Has anyone had any luck doing this?  I can't miss  work and plus, we are having out first child on Sunday. My wife is being induced. So, needless to say this has come at the worst time!!

But, will the Nucynta keep me from withdrawing?

Any help is appreciated!!

12yes on the methedone and went cold trukey down to 30mg. It was not good. I agree with weaver and blotout try to just taper down from the methedone SLOW and maybe not go on anything else. You will get better but methedone seems to take a little longer because of its long life in the body. GOOD LUCK You took the first step.

from what ive read this probably isnt a good idea unless your on a low dose of methadone, i couldnt find very much useful info on switching from methadone to this, and it seems to have a list of odd side effects, let us know how it goes, GOOD LUCK!!

Nucynta will keep you from feeling withdrawal, it is a full agonist synthetic opioid, just like methadone. Personally, I would taper down as low as you can before the switch. Methadone is very strong, and if I'm not mistaken, Nucynta is closer to a percocet. You will be okay, and the new child should lift your spirits. I agree with your doctor about the methadone, you don't want to stay on it too long. Let us know how it goes.
