FOREVER! Seriously, it takes a month or longer. I highly recommend you get off of it a.s.a.p.! I know because I was on methadone for years! I'm on Suboxone and have been for 2 years. I suggest getting off the methadone and switching to Suboxone. But caution, with methadone in your system, you can have serious withdrawals and severe allergic reactions. You would have to have the methadone completely out of your system first. Methadone withdrawal is the worst ever. Every heroin addict I've ever met in my past days in rehab, all said that methadone was way worse coming off of. I'm telling you, my family is on methadone, I used to be on it, get off of it a.s.a.p.! It's the worst thing, and horrible to come off of. It's impossible to come off of without something prescribed for withdrawals! You will need to contact a doctor, or an experienced facility with methadone treatment capabilities. Gd bless you, and I wish you the best of luck!
I have to agree with weaver71, they are right-on with what they said in regards to Methadone WD. It took me at least a month before I began feeling half-way normal. I know answer's like this freak people out but it's the truth. Thankfully when I went though it I had no idea how long it was going to take so I didn't have a month-long countdown to contend with. My hours turned into days and my days turned into weeks and then BAM, the curse was lifted. I went CT after about 120mgs a day habit. It was horrendous but always remember that opiate WD will not kill you, just feels that way.
The good news is that when the veil finally lifted I'd never felt better in my life, that's completely true. It was as if I was reborn and you'll feel the same way. Withdrawal is the price we pay for poisoning our bodies for so long. The body, mind, and spirit need time to heal. Don't worry, everything will get back to normal in due time. Good luck!
Need more info. What dose where you taking, did you taper down, what dose did you jump off? The acute WD is about 3-4 weeks, then it slowly gets better. Taper or high dose jump, symptoms seem to linger, severity is less at lower doses though. The Thomas recipe and amino acid protocol at the bottom of this page help a lot. With more info, we can help more. Keep posting and never give up.
