Methadone withdrawal

I've been on Methadone for 4three years. I began using it for migraines at 19 for migraines. I didn't have insurance, and this was available to me at no cost, and did wonders fo my toxic migraines. At one point, I topped out at 50 mg/day, but I went right back down to thirty, and have been here at 20 for over  year now. I'm quitting for several r
1. I don't want to live under the power of this drug anymore. It's like waking up with a hangover every morning. I don't remember anything from he night before
2. I need to find a good job, as I'm being forced to live out on my own again (this is not drug related.)
3. I'm in school to be a vet, so methadone certainly isn't going to fly i that situation.
4. I want to live a drug fee life.
I guess my question for all of you is, "what now" ? Do I jump? Taper? If so, how much?
Thanks for all the help!

There are a number of different choices for detoxification. You have to see what your options are and choose from there. You have traditional rehabs that will require a 30 to 90 day commitment, you have medical detoxification that some treatment centers offer , you have rapid detox ( I work with The Waismann Method) where you will need a week or you can titrate slowly on your own . Most patients that I have seen that have succeeded in an outpatient basis tapered really slowly like 1 to 2 milligrams a week.
So as you see , there are options for you ,but you need to figure what fits your personal , academic needs and financial needs. Regardless is absolutely great that you have decided to put this behind you. Stay strong and focus and you can make it.

hello and welcome. good for you wanting to re-claim your life and live drug free. you are at 20mgs.we cant give specific taper info. against forum rules.  methadone has a long half life. you will need to taper slow.the lower the mgs in methadone the slower you have to go. cold turkey at 20mgs is rough. you should taper down to about 5mgs before you jump.  look at the health pages at the bottom right side of this page. the amino acid protocol is good and there is also some info pages on methadone. we are here to support you and encourage you. there are alo of people on here that have tapered from methadone. keep posting for support
