No, I knew she got it legally I think from a clinic. People that shoot dope can be the most narcotic addicted of all but I still hope she will not be a long term methadonian and find her way out. "Methadone, there's no future in it." all the best

methadone is not something to mess around wth either. are you taking this under a dr's care? or buying off the street? there really is no easy way out you are going to suffer some w/d's. check out my journal.......really read it good luck

It's better to keep you stay on the done short unless you know you will go back to dope. It's harm redution therapy or the lessor of 2 evils. The reason it's less evil than dope is only because it's legal and is dope, really strong dope! I spent far too many years on done but finally broke free 5 years ago and encourage those that can to do . "Methadone, there's no future in it" all the best

Unfortunately we are all too familiar with it.
There are so many things that are different this time...we are very determined and have carefully chosen the proper time and taken proper precautions as well as preparing ourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  We are open to this and have accepted it.
The worst lies ahead...so does the best.
Thanks so much for the support...this is a huge part of our recovery.

Coming off of methadone is more intense than that of heroin, given, as i'm sure you've heard, "half life, and potency."  I started at 20mg a day and quit c/t at 5 mgs. I was only on it for about 2 months and still went through 3 weeks of withdrawls....i would stay on it the absolute LEAST amount of time possible....this demon is MUCH harder to kick.  Please be advised before the walls close in.  Keep posting.  Lots of great people and info. here.  Good luck.

Your bad feelings should begin to subside soon.  Although I have no experience with heroin, I am at the methadone clinic...only through tomorrow though.  This past August we began our slow descent off methadone.  We were dosing @110mg.daily, tomorrow we will dose @7mg.and go ct from there.  We have been planning this and preparing for a long time.
Although in reading many of my posts, I sound like I am very anti-methadone, which I am not (entirely), every situation differs and it shaped our life up nicely!  My only complaint is their desire to keep you on it too long.  Yes, you need to get stable, you need to truly have the desire and structure to succeed.  Once you have got things straight, start detoxing, take your time, do not fear it.  Use this time to focus on yourself and what your best interest is and go from there.
This forum is awesome.  The support and compassion is priceless.
Please check out my journal for info on vitamins that make you feel better, physically, mentally, emotionally...it is how I am feeling well and functioning as we 'type'.
Best of luck and continue to post often!
If I can be of help, please let me know.
Peace

Penelope thank you for posting a very honest life experience and I wish the best for you.
Can I ask you when you finally took off the last layer and you stood their naked what was your next move?
Your post was very positive read and touched me like you cannot imagine because when I took off that last layer and stood naked once more I took it as another chance to live again. I know don't take my life for granted any more and live each day hoping that I'll get another one and watch another sunrise and be thankful that I am still alive and no longer in the grips of the demons who held me hostage for so many years.

For me personally, I was addicted to oxys & jumped off of oxys straight onto methadone, they started me at 40mgs, which was tolerated ok, but within days, I was moved up to 70mgs, thats where I stayed for a few weeks, then I was moved up to 90, where I stayed at for quite a while, now Im at 4mgs & yearning to get off this junk! I cant say your doing the wrong thing, as who am I to speak? But I so wish I would have had someone around when I was first introduced to methadone who told me exactly how hard it would be to get off of it, & who explained to me how the half life with methadone works etc, I was merely warned about the long drives & the daily visits to the clinic, the group meetings, blah, blah, blah. Everyones different & methadone kinda builds & builds in the body over time, so Im thinking in a few days you should begin to feel better, If thats what you want to call it, as I never, ever felt like I was truly me during my time on it, no emotions, no ambitions, no feelings, methadone kinda masked all my ability to feel & once you begin to taper, its like someones pealing back layers and layers of your clothing, soon you are naked to all these emotions that you were feeling prior to methadone, & I think this is when relapse is at its highest, suddenly this desire of drinking or using starts creeping up in your brain, & this is the time you use the tools that were learned in your sobriety, so I really hope if you stay on methadone that you take advantage of this time off heroin & seek some support & guidance. Lots of Luck, Penelope

hi heather, your post slipped past me.  sorry it took so long to answer.  i dont really know anything about methadone...most ppl are in bed tonight, but if you will repost this in the morning you will get lost of reponse...there are lots of ppl here that take it or have taken it.  some say it saved their life while others say it destroyed theirs.  that is the good part of this forum, we just all say what worked for us and then everyone makes their own choices and we support each others choice.  you are definately in the right place.  you will get lots of support.  congrats on taking you life back...did you get the methadone from a dr.?
