Methadone is generally used for withdrawal from heroin or in some cases oxycontin, two drugs that are considerabbly stronger and more potent than vicodin.
There is something called Suboxone, which canhelp ease withdrawal and acts much in the same way as methadone but it's not nearly as addictive.
It's very very hard to get off of methadone.  If i were you, I would not go that route.
Read past posts on here.  there are a lot of people who either tapered or went c/t from the dosages of vicodin you are on.
It is not life threatening even though it might feel like it.
It's like having the worst flu of your life for about 1 week or so then it's mostly mental.
Please explore other options before methadone.
Good luck to you.

I think a taper from viacs. is the best way to go! Methadone is a far stronger drug if you want to come off viacs. why would you go to something stronger? What was your doctors reason for the change to methadone?

I would strongly recommend to not turn to methadone!! If you are addicted to vicodin, methadone is MUCH stronger and A LOT harder to come down off of. Myself and my girlfriend had been taking methadone for the last year now, my 20-40 mgs and her 160-240 mgs a day and it is hell. Its been 5 days now since we have had any and it is not easy, easier for me then her. She is having a hard time coming off that high of a dose. We have been mixing in oxys here n there so we can get to work and servive. But do not switch to methadone.
