Methadone?

Sorry to sound dumb, but what is methadone, and suboxone. I have been reading allot of post, and I hear allot about these two drugs. I hear that the methadone is very addicting too. Do you get a high from it? What makes it so addicting? Just curious. By the way day 5, no pills. Did not sleep at all last night, and for some reason I can't stop sneezing. Anybody else have this problem?

all good reponses i agree, Special K goodluck great your down to 5mg, does it make you high Hmmmmmm, no but you do get a feeling of wellbeing, like i will take my dose and then be all content , and to everything around me, but high no and i also can get noddy on it too, about 5pm most days ill have to go lie down and i kinda zone out for 1/2hr -45min then i get up and feel all ok again ready to go weird really. but there's always a heavy feeling too with it hard to explain, eating full meals are really hard id much rather drink a galon of chocolate milk for dinner, yet i remember the day when i could die for a steak' chips :( wont be long again,  What makes it so addicting well i guess what's in it , long acting and binds like you wont belive. How could anyone be on it 20yrs and for life that's like giving up on yourself and life sadddddddddd

I believe that some people, not all should be on methadone, I for instance shouldnt have been, looking back I should have just gone into rehab, I was addicted to oxycotin & the usual time frame it took for me to feel better was 3 to 4 days, if you compare it to detoxing from methadone, I would gladly trade the 3 to 4 days of feeling really sick, for enduring the taper process of a methadone detox, It just drags on forever, & if you dont have alot of clean time behind you, or a stable lifestyle your likely to fail. I,ve done quite a bit of research on suboxone & as wait2long says, methadone is a full agonist, while sub is a partial, this could explain why many people do better on sub?  I have also seen many methadone clients at the clinic I go to, { or used to go to }, who are lifers on methadone, I know of one lady who has been on 120mgs for almost 20 years, who has no desire to ever walk away from methadone, & no one who works at the clinic cares nor makes any recomondations to her or anyone else about a detox plan, unless you ask, they will continue collecting your co-pay or cash, & you continue being a slave to methadone, to me its sad, but this is merely my view on methadone clinics, others may disagree with me, & thats ok.   Thanks Penelope

suboxen is definitely a better way to go if you can use it. i abused it so badly that it wouldn't stop the withdrawals, but i've definitely heard better stories of people tapering off that. suboxen is also highly effective for the occassional pill popper than the kind of doper i was, every 2 hrs i need to fix, when i tried suboxen when i had just a pill habit it was amazing i thought but as i progressed it failed me

your right, and in your case suboxone may not have been enough to hold you, so yes, methadone was a good option for you. and i too thought while i was on it, that i wasnt high...but i can also see the difference now ...
good luck to you!!!

Yes, Methadone is just a legal synthetic herion. It is very addicting! But the way they try to help you with it is: Give it to you, but try to sway you off of it in like a 6 month period.

Suboxin does block the receptors. But once you have taken the pill, It will make you not want any opiates, and if you do take one while you are on suboxin, i heard it will make you crucially sick. I heard that when you take the pill for the first time that you feel normal. like everyone else.

My husband Is starting suboxin tom. His friend highly recommended it who has been on it for 2 months

once i got really clean and stopped all the other drug, it isn't a high like a drug addict really looks for but looking back at my own road i would say yeah i got high when my dose was @ +140mgs./daily

i've been on methadone for approx. 3yrs,my highest dose was 187mgs./daily I used it to kick a serious heroin habit, choosing to not go through withdrawals till my mind was able to endure through it. Methadone is an opiate which is commonly used for heroin addicts to use legally, some docs use for pain as well. I've been steadily coming down at 5mgs/wk till recently when i hit 10mgs/daily i am now at 5mgs/daily which has been tapered every 4 weeks /-2.5mgs.
i feel really ****** approx. 1.5/wks after the first taper, when i was going down 5mgs/wk i didn't feel it till i went 10mgs from 15mgs, i forgot what it felt like to be dope sick, but thanks to the posts here i've learned some tips to lessen the withdrawals.
i also want to say i don't think i coulda kicked my heroin habit without it, i was able to switch the focus, when i could start to focus that is. and start to get my life back together. now being sick doesn't mean what it did when i first started methadone, it sux but it is not bad enough to stick a spike in my arm.
if i could go back i think i would still've ended up at the methadone clinic, there was nothing that could stop me, i used too when i first started which led to such a high dose, but eventually no matter how much i shot i wouldn't get high once i got over 125mgs. then it took time after that for things to start to show hope, then the detox process started. i've been detoxing for a lil over a year now i am so close to getting off, hopefully within the next 1-2 mos.!

methadone is what they call a full agonist, which means it fills your receptors the same way percs or oxies would thus producing the full opoiod effect...

suboxone is a partial antagonist which means it fills only a portion of your receptors, the portions that would cause you to be in withdrawals if none of your drug of choice is evident in your receptors, producing no opiod effect also blocking any other opiods if taken while on suboxone.

both are habit forming, methadone way more so. both used to treat addiction to opiods.
suboxone is safe, methadone is not.
suboxone is easier to get off when proper taper is followed, methadone is the hardest drug to kick...
i have been on methadone, i am currently on sub...2 TOTALLY different drugs.
