Don't wait until the last minute to tell your dentist about your situation.  There are meds out there that are not opiate based that should work well for you. Tell your dentist about the methadone and don't worry about what he/she will think.  It's none of their business and I'm sure you're not the only one to every have a root canal who's been on methadone.  Be up front.  I think you're worrying more than is necessary. Good luck!

I agree, be open and up front with the dentist.  I had this same situation several years ago and told my dentist what I had been taking, an opiate for headaches. He was glad I told him and adjusted the anesthetic, the surgery went very well.

Good luck.

Oops, didn't get finished.
The dentist gave me a stronger pain killer after surgery but only for a short time. They usually will only give you the amount that a normal surgery would require, think I took hydrocodone for 6 days.  Since there were no complications, I took a milder OTC pain med. after that. When it heals you don't need any more!

Hope your surgery goes well.

Well I'm glad that everything turned out ok! I go to a methadone clinic too and know how it can be. Some people just don't understand that it's your MDICATION that you are taking AS PRESCRIBED by a doctor. And they like to assume things without researching too. Blah... that's some people for you though. Keep your head up and know that you are doing the right thing for yourself!
