Mom addicted, impact on new baby?

My daughter-in-law got off prescription drug addiction of many years in order to have a baby.  She was doing great, the baby is three months old and I have been noticing serious personality changes in my d-in-l the past month.  At first I chalked it up to postpartum stuff but found out she is back on vicodin and has been lying to her doctor (found new ones out of town) to get drugs, they have no idea she has a baby.  I confronted her on all of this, she is very defensive, its "not a problem" she insists and says she will get rid of it and deal with it.  I don't buy it for a minute.  I am worred for her but more so for the baby.  The baby has been acting very agitated lately - too young for separation anxiety - but similar behavior.  Just screams in fear when separated from her mother - which has been happening with increased frequency as mom leaves her behind to get her drugs.  This is a nightmare.  Any advise?  Thanks for your help.add

Hi, im sorry no one has responded yet to your post. I dont know that I can give you much useful advice though because if the mother is not ready to quit the pills, she wont. I hope she wants to and can quit soon though. Was this her first baby? My addiction got startd and very bad after i had my last son. The vicodin gave me the extra energy to deal with keeping up with two little ones and the high to cope with stresses. its a bad pitfall...I hope she can get out of it before she gets in too deep again. Keep us posted..
