More information about ultram withdrawal please

Came on the forum by accident-trying to figure out what's going on with me. My rheumatologist was concerned about my ibuprofen and ultram use (after 2 years prescribed). Went abruptly from 400 mg ibuprofen & 100 mg ultram 6x per day to 1 Mobic. I feel like there is a war going on inside my body....and my mind is not far behind!!! IS this the ultram? The ibuprofen? Both?? Or am I going nuts????

Thanks for the support minnie, it is nice to hear encouraging thoughts. I hope you do well with your tapering....by the way, I take (took??) 100mg ultram 6 times per day not 100 mg per day so am not expecting (or experiencing) an easy ride.
Actually I feel better today than I would have expected last night. I took the advice of adding vitamin B6 for daytime cloudy head and advil pm actually let me get a few hours of sleep last night. I was already taking the immodium because I thought I had some weird kind of cold/flu before I realized this was withdrawal.
One more work day to go and then I can stay home and cry and shake if I need to. Today at work was hard-people kept teling me I seemed distracted...hmmm.
My husband says he needs a few days to "process all this information" but will stand by me I'm sure once he realizes I'm not just making a big deal out of things (huh??)
Gotta admit to one thing 'tho-a friend came over last night because she heard I was out of my pain meds and brought 3 750mg vicoden with her...I stared at those suckers for a long time and then told her to put them away. Can't tell you how many times I've thought about calling her back.

It really is outrageous that there are doctors out there who still haven't found out that ULTRAM IS IN FACT ADDICTIVE. I was prescribed Ultram 8 months ago by my doctor/dentist and am totally addicted now - I am trying tapering before quitting altogether. I take way more than you, though, so if you only took 100 mg a day I believe your w/d will be less prolonged, so you will feel better soon. I don't believe that w/d from Ultram is worse than from Vic's, but they are terrible non the less. I saw a web site some time ago which described w/d from all types of opiates, including Ultram, and it is more or less the same.
Did you see the Thomas recipe in a post below? It might help you to alliviate the discomfort. I hope w/d will soon be over for you, but until then, hang in there.

I have been reading a lot of other threads regarding the ultram issue and now am positive that is what I'm feeling. I was really wondering how I caught a cold SO FAST....al this sudden stuffy head and sneezing (makes sense now) and what's up with the unending yawns (ALSO makes sense now)....not to mention the bathroom issues...I really should have recognized the yawns from some of my friends and acquaintances over the years who were/are street drug users. Meth is a big "hit" here and I've watched so many people come down it  just didn't hit me that I am doing the same thing!
Sounds weird, but it does feel better knowing that these are most likely symptoms of the ultram crazies and not some of the deeper thoughts I was dreaming up.
I hurt...a lot...but am going to "guts up" and go talk to my husband about all this. I don't have a doc I can go to for help doing this slowly...."Hi, I'm a new patient but I need your help RIGHT NOW because I'm going cold turkey off my ultram and would really prefer to do it a little slower than 12 to 0 in 24 hours". I work in a big hospital system in a not so big town and am POSITIVE the "word" would be all around town before you could even say HIPAA!
I'm going to be positive and climb this hill. Wish me luck and say a little prayer for me. Thanks for the advise/warning regarding seizures.....let's hope I get to skip that page of the playbook.

I know exactly what you mean and I am very sorry that your doctor is such a JERK and doesn't really know too much about the meds he prescribes.  Sadly, though, not many do know about Ultram and the like.  I hear that most will say that it is not addicting though so many ppl have problems when quitting.  I agree with the above about the seizures - you need to find a new doc and quickly so that you can get a new plan together.  Is that a possiblity?  Don't want to scare you, just want you to be safe.  See if you can get with someone tomorrow.  Many docs will listen - especially when your honest.  I hope you find one that will!!  Anyway, in the meantime, keep your chin up, and try to stay calm.  I found myself in major panic and it just seems to make things worse.

Good luck and take care.

Thanks for the fast reply-I'm sitting here staring at the computer hoping people will talk to me. The "quick off" was NOT my idea-I had mentioned to my rheumatologist that the ultram didn't seem to be helping enough with the pain (I have ankylosing spondylitis) and he interpreted this as a request for narcotics. He said (and I quote) "I don't prescribe narcotics".....BOY DO I HAVE A THING OR 2 TO SAY TO HIM!!!! If these horrible feelings ARE because of the ultram then he has "blessed" me with the exact thing he says he tries to avoid by not prescribing "stronger" pills. I never thought I was addicted, never got a "buzz", never took them "for fun"....just know that when I don't take them I hurt too much.
Now I don't know what to do and feel like my insides are trying to become my outsides.

Actually, I have been told that w/d's from ultram are worse than w/d's from vikes and other opiates. Ultram(tramadol) is a synthetic narcotic..but has the same effects as a narcotic. The one thing that I have heard, also, is that w/d's from ultram can cause seizures..depending on how much you were taking. So you may need to taper off instead of going c/t. Your doc should be able to tell you more,..or you could google it, also.
Just be careful and get some medical advice regarding the ultrams, because like I said they can be dangerous coming off of them c/t.

There are others here going through the same thing.  They will come on and will answer you if they are not here now.  I just wanted to say, Hi and welcome.  This is a good place to get the info you need and talk to other ppl going through what you are.  I wish you continued success in staying off the ultram.  From what I hear, they are as hard as any other narcotic pain pill to come off of.
However, with my limited knowledge of them, wouldn't tapering down a little be better and easier on you.  If you could do it, it may help you out.  If it is like other opiates, then the physical will last between 3 and 5 days and the mental is a little longer.  Good luck and keep us up to date.
