Morning depression

I have the worst time in the morning with my addiction, I feel terrible as soon as I wake up. I take my pain meds to get going and use most of what  I use all day just to get outta bed. Does anyone know anything that could help, I could cut my dose considerably by solving this problem. I use first thing then around lunch , when I make it to between 3 and 5 pm I can go the rest of the day and all night without using. I'm just weak at that time, and any ideas would be great. Thanks !

Same with me, both while using and now 40+ days clean my mood is almost always worst when I first wake up.

What I've done to manage it is set a really evil alarm that no one alive could ignore, get up to turn it off and immediately get up and do anything, anything at all but lie in bed. As soon as I can stomach it I go out for a short run. This seems to kick the endorphines off enough to function.

St Johns Wort is surprisingly effective vs depression. 5-THP perhaps even more so with opiate/MDMA damage of serotonin production but that stuff has a long contra-indication list so if you do try it read the instructions properly first!

I think the biggest reason we need one right when we wake up is due to the fact that it's the longest stretch of time most of us go without. They say the withdrawals usually start within 12 hours of your lost dose. I'm a union boilermaker so I also never worry about taking a shower in the morning. I always get filthy while working so I take one when I get home. It might help to get up 15 minutes earlier and try a shower in the morning.
Have you thought about quitting the meds? How many do you take a day? You could try by tapering down a bit as I know it is tough to work while going through withdrawals. I had to work threw withdrawals after going cold turkey off a high amount of vicodin over a year ago. I had to get up at 4:30, drive a hour, and work 11 hour days. I dreaded even waking up in the morning! I did manage to make it through but it was tough. I think it did help working as it kept my mind off of the pills a bit.
This forum is a great place for advice. It has gave many people the willpower and motivation to finally kick the habit. Even if you aren't ready to quit please stick around so you can educate yourself as much as possible so you know what you're up against. No one here will judge even if you are currently using. This is a great bunch of people! Best of luck to you!

I tried stopping, i'm in too deep right now, 200 mg or so oxy dose. i would lose my job if i stopped c/t. I'm on a taper, it's working i just need a few more weeks to really get on top of it again, i got down so far that I started to get buzzes again on small doses so i relapsed for a few weeks, it was my first attempt.  Like I said in another post i was at 300-600mg a day usually on the higher end now I'm under 300 all the time in three months work. I'm trying to drop 15-30 mg a day a week. thats only half a pill or a whole pill a day a week. seems simple but it's not.

Hey Co...I was just reading your post and was wondering why you are taking this long to stop if you truely want to stop? I understand the WD'S suck bad but, the fact is, is that they are coming either way and your tapper seems to be taking wayy to long.  Don't get me wrong I am so happy and proud of your accomplishments thus far but, this long tapper is just messing up your brain even more.  Like you said, you started getting buzzed again and than relapsed.  I'm not knocking you at all cuz I went through the same thing so I totally get it.  I did the slow tapper and just kept relapsing (esp. when I got to the point where I felt high again)! It just became this insane cycle and soon I realized I didn't truely want to put my whole heart into stopping cuz I still liked the feeling of it on some level and struggled to give that up.  I realized the only way to so this is to just cut the bull **** and STOP! No more "oh well I just need one more week of tappering" or "I have a long week of work so I will stop saturday"... I realized that there is no time like the present! So pick up the tapper now and move foward with your life!! Time is flying and you deserve a good life so go get it... :)

Thanks for the advice but I cant afford to miss one day of work or I would do c/t. I've tried it and it didnt work. I dont know what you do for work but I cant be up on scaffold or using construction equipment when i'm in that state it puts others i work with at risk of me hurting them. I am super clumsy when i'm w/ding, and I run the job so i'm in charge.  Also my dose cut in half in three months is not so bad, I talked to several dr's and they all said a long taper is the best and safest way. I totally see what and where your coming from, but I messed up once and I see now what I did wrong that time and it wont happen again. I do want to stop i'm not just playing like I want to, and making excuses to keep using,  this way is working for me. I'm feeling better everyday and feeling stronger to stop so thank you for your concern and advice.

Weird, I always feel best in the morning -- no matter what.  I seem to get hit mid to late afternoon.  However, when I get up, I get up and get going -- I've never been one to lay around in bed.  Of course, I always go to bed and get up at the same time -- I may not feel like getting out of a nice cozy bed in the AM but I have things to do.  And I do work out every morning -- even if it's just a "power walk".  I'd like to know how to get through the mid to late afternoon period -- I'm fine after 6:00.  Maybe I'm just tired in the afternoon...  I have to say I was surprised that so many feel depressed in the early AM since it's so "backwards" to me.  But in any case, I hope you find some relief with the suggestions.

In the afternoon I just power through the cravings, If you are talking about pills? not sure. If you just get down around that time I drink a starbucks or something, listen to my ipod, text my friends. I am working on new tactics daily if I find any new ones I will def let it be known.
