Morphine Withdrawl

I was gettting 24 mg of hydro morphine and every two weeks id come down a couple mg, by the time i reached 1mg, i started going through withdrawl, as i wasnt taking what i shouldve been, i havent been getting perscriptions for morphine any more for about a year,i started buying them on the street, i know now that i have an addiction, i moved home to get away from the drugs i could easily find in the city, and now im regreting it because when i go to the hospital they give me adavan's and zoplicone, the adavansd help a little they take the aggatated feeling away but i need to take more then i should, and the zoplocone do help me sleep, I work at a school and i just want to come off these drugs, but i cant handle the body aches , vomiting and restlessness  i go hot n cold and have the most offel body aches, what else helps this stop? and also some doctors at the hospital dont believe in giving pain meds out theres only one doctor that will help me what should i do about this? sincerly kat

I have a friend who had an implanted morphine pump for 7 yrs due to back pain.  I pump's battery lasted 7 yrs- which is its normal lifespan.  My friend
was weened off the 2 month prior to its stopping.  Within 24hr he went beserk - seriously thought of killing himself, was extremely agitated, mean-(which was out of character for him).  His pain management dr said my friend WAS NOT in withdrawl.  Does anyone else out there have any similar experiences with coming off of implanted drug pumps?
Much Thank For Any Info

They're not going to give you morphine in the hospital!!!  If you go to an inpatient detox, they'll give you things to help ease withdrawals and they'll monitor your blood pressure and make sure you're hydrated, but no one is going to give you IV narcotics or narcotics in pill form.  It doesn't solve the problem.  You need to decide what you're going to do and make a plan.  YOu can go inpatient to detox; you can go CT at home, or you can taper at home.  Your primary care doctor may give you a LITTLE Ativan to help you through it but he may not.  And that's addicting as well so you have to be very careful with it.  Your doctor may give you some Clonidine, which some people say helps withdrawal symptoms and they might give you something to help with sleep, but again, a sleep aid can be habit forming so you can't use it too long.  I think Melatonin or Alteril works best for sleep anyway.  There are some all-natural products and vitamins that help withdrawals.  Look up the Thomas Recipe and you can see what they are.  If you decide to CT at home or taper at home, those things will help.  If you go inpatient to a detox, they'll give you whatever their protocol is (but it definitely won't be anything narcotic.)

If you have a primary care doctor, check in with him/her.  They may give you a taper schedule.  Tapering doesn't work for a lot of people that are addicted though.  Your doctor may also give you Ativan for at home or something else but they can also be addicting so you need to be careful.

How long have you been at 1 mg?  At this point, just stopping probably won't be any worse than what you're experiencing now.  The Thomas Recipe has suggestions on things to take the edge of and lots of people swear by it.

Vomiting is common but you have to really keep hydrated or you'll wind up in the ER on IV fluids.  You need to drink a good sip of water/juice/Gatorade every 15 minutes to stay hydrated.  Push as many fluids as you can without throwing up.  Bland foods in small portions are best if you can't keep things down.

Melatonin or Alteril will help a little with sleep and are not habit forming.  Valerian Root is all natural and can help with anxiety.  A lot of people have had good luck with Hylands Restful Legs for the restlessness.  Ibuprofen for the body aches and pains may help a little.  For the physical part of it, it's time.  But it's the mental part that will pull you back in so you need to have a plan for some type of aftercare.
