this is just my experience, but i have had rsd/crps since 07 due to multiple injuries/ surgeries from football, i went to a pain management clinic that specializes in addiction/pain management and after trying many drugs non narcotic my doctor prescribed me suboxone along w oxycontin and klonopin to manage pain. he told me the suboxone was to keeps my "levels" from rising and falling, thus preventing addiction/ dependence and the meds actually worked better and did not need to keep increasing the doses of narcotics. this doctor is very well known and respected. he appears on "intervention' a show about drug addiction on A & E. Dr. jerry rand at bay recovery in sd,ca u can look him up and see whats up with it, and try to find a dr in ur area that uses this procedure of treating chronic debilitating pain. i am not a doctor this is my personal experience my quality of life was greatly increased but there is always risk meds affect everyone diff. write back if u have any ?'s, finding a good treatment can b very frustrating it took me a long time to find a good doc, keep ur head up
I've read that any doctor that prescribes narcotics can prescribe suboxone for "pain" just not for addiction unless they are certified. I'm well aware you shouldn't take opiates while on suboxone but I did anyway and I still got high. I just had to take a bit more. I was told suboxone blocks all other opiates but apparently it doesn't or I wasn't taking enough suboxone. Yes I'm still using. There is no way I could do it "cold turkey" it would literally kill me. I know that sounds dramatic and exaggerated but I can promise you its true. If I ran out ever for more than a day I'd have to be admitted to the hospital. Thanks for your comments and insight.
Also, sub is used for detox, it's is NOT recommended to continue using pills while on sub.
As far as I know only certain doctor's can rx sub. You'd have to go to a detox center or find a doctor that can rx sub. Are you still using? If you've been clean for a few days you may have gone through the tough part of detox already.
Well the issue is lack of access to the treatment you talk about. That's why I ask about a normal doctor doing it. I'm not going to have access to meetings, councilers or treatment in general. I will have to do it completely by myself unless I'm forced to drive the140 miles to that addiction center. I'm well aware suboxone is not a "miracle" pill. I've taken it before for a couple weeks. I'm going to ask my normal doctor about it. The worst he can do is say no, in which case, ill have to make the drive. I'm at the point where I've tried to quit so many times that maintenance is sounding better and better. I'm sure most people don't agree with that concept but its an option I may have to take due to lack of treatment programs. Thanks for your replies.
You'll more than likely never get a doctor to prescribe you suboxone for pain. From what I've heard it's rarely prescribed for pain in the US. I've heard that it is prescribed on occasion for pain in the UK and that is only for people that are opiate tolerant. I've been a member of this forum for around 4 years and I've never heard of anyone having it prescribed for pain. Even if it was, it would more than likely be used as a last resort after trying many other pain meds. Even if it were prescribed more often for pain I can't see a general practitioner prescribing but rather a doctor through a pain management clinic.
I did a google search and supposedly subutex is a little cheaper because there's a generic for it. It may be cheaper but still expensive if you're paying cash.
You have to remember that suboxone isn't just a pill but a program. You can't just take it and expect to be cured of addiction. You have to work on your recovery by going to meetings, counseling, etc. That's probably one of the main reasons not every doctor can prescribe it. There has to be some form of program in place to up the odds of being successful. If for some reason you were able to get it from a regular doctor how are you going to be part of a program? You'll just be trading one addictive substance for another if you did that.
If with suboxone you have to want to quit. If you're still going to be taking vicodin or oxy it's pretty much pointless and can also be dangerous. If you plan to take it I'd recommend going to a place that offers addiction counseling and meetings along with the suboxone. It will just up your odds of staying sober.
Yes and as I said above I've tried it before but I couldn't keep getting it because the doctors that are qualified to use suboxone for addiction treatment are a minimum of 140 miles away round trip and I have a 50 to 80hr, 7 days a week job. That's why I asked about just getting my regular family doctor to prescribe them for "pain". He is just 40 miles away and he has been my doctor my entire life. Is subtex cheaper? Any insight to this question and the above are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
hi can only answer the question about subutex and suboxone.you hit the nail on the head about the difference.and that is the only one.are you thinking of using the subs to get of the oxys?
