Multiple Vitamin Deficiencies?

Multiple Vitamin Deficiencies?

I am very uninformed when it comes to vitamins, so I thought I'd throw this question out there...

I was having really bad leg pain about 10 days ago and realized that I had a Potassium issue.  I was, and had been for the month prior, craving jalapenos.  While they are not a huge source of potassium, they have the largest percentage of potassium than any other vitamin in them...very strange.  Anyway, within a day of taking a Potassium supplement, the leg pain starting subsiding and within two days totally disappeared.

At the same time he bought me the potassium, my husband bought me a general multi-vitamin.  I've taken them on and off in my life, mostly off, but have ALWAYS noticed that when on them my urine is "electric yellow".  I have been told this is because your body absorbs what it needs and gets rid of the rest.  This time, my urine looks absolutely normal and I've been taking them for 10 days now.

I'm sick right now and I don't know if that makes a difference or am I totally deficient in almost every vitamin??  If anyone knows anything about this, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Thanks, guys!

Addicts in general are deficient. Drugs block the absorption of nutrients. Including presription drugs. I know that you have some other health issues so any medications you are on would be blocking absorption of nutrients from the food you eat as well as vitamins.

The B vitamins are what turn your pee bright yellow. And those are much needed for someone like us who is trying to recover.

If you want I can put together a list of what you are more than likely deficient in..I have a book that tells all.. several of them actually..LOL

I read your post about being sick on your honeymoon!!  Are you any better?   I am terribly sorry!!!!   You have a great hubby to nurse you on your honeymoon..................     :-0

I am not familiar with your story as I am rather new here but I am sure what it entails!

I consider myself a healthnut and prior to this ugly hold the Norco got on me, I have always taken, what I consider, important supplements.    I know they make a huge difference in how I feel and my hair texture.

I take Super B complex, vitamin E, Biotin, Milk Thistle, Alpha Lipolic acid and vitamin C.............

I did not know your body gets depleted of nutrients when we abuse so I don't know how good they;ve done these last 2 years!

Best wishes,
Karen

I was hoping you'd answer this post...I figured you might know a lot about this.  If you could put together a list of suggested supplements for me, I'd really, really appreciate it.  I desperately want to get balanced here.  I had never really noticed a difference when I took vitamins/supplements before, but this whole potassium thing has made a believer out of me!

Thanks, Stephanie!

Thanks for the post...I am still on my honeymoon and feeling a lot better.  Everything seems to have settled in my chest and I'm coughing constantly trying to get the mess out, but the fever is gone so I'm feeling much better.

Ive had a bad cough since april 07 (right after my hysterectomy) theyve tried everything they can think of with me. when i was still using I was taking the hycotuss syrup (hydrocodone cough syrup) and codeine kind(this one did not help.) Ive gotten inhalers, zpac, prednisone, numerous antibiotics...which never worked either. Chest xrays, etc....
they tell me if i quit smoking itll go away, well DER! the one thing I did find that helped with the cough (besides the hycotuss syrup which is a no no for me now) is otter pops, or popsicles. When I had some stuff stuck in my throat that wouldnt come up Id drink something hot like apple cider, coffee, or hot chocolate. Thatd usually do it.

Sure I will put that list together tonight... do you wanna mainly focus on vitmins depleted by drug use??  Or is there any other health issue you would like me to add to the mix??  It will probably be about 7pm til I can get to doing this.. I have a doc appt at 2pm, deep tissue massage at 445 and chiropractor at 615.. didn't want you to think I forgot about you if you don't see it..

Hey...we've been out all day and I just got the message...I guess let's mainly focus on vitamins depleted by drug use.  I had a post from Thursdaynext about losing hair and vitamin deficiency.  About 4 or 5 days before the wedding I started losing a wad of hair every time I showered and this continued until about 2 days ago.  I just chalked it up to stress, but now I don't know...what's your opinion on that, both professionally and from a vitamin deficiency knowledge standpoint?  Thanks so much, Stephanie...I really, really appreciate your help with this.

I just got home myself... its 930pm... I will work on that list tonight so look for it in the morning. Hair loss is very commom with vitamin deficiencies as well as drug use.. our bodies detox everything through our skin.. sometimes stuff like meds can clog a hair follicle.. When a client of mine comes in and says she is losing hair.. That is the first question I ask is "are you taking or have you stopped any medications" The second is are you pregnant or did you just have a baby. Hormones are also a huge cause for hair loss As far as your hair goes.. I would get a clarifying shampoo or treatment. Leave it on for at least 10 min. And then if you can find a Redken Salon near you make a appt and ask for a "pre art" treatment.. that will get everything out.. I would also use a conditioner for distressed hair.
As for the vitamin stuff... have you ever taking probiotics??  That would be a good start. It replenishes the good stuff in our intestines so that stuff abosrbs properly. I know for me.. I have been on a huge amount of anti biotics in my life.. they kill the good bacteria in our intestines.. Probiotics replace that..Any health food store has em.. Get a non dairy formula.
I will type up the other vitamins tonight..

Ok.. here we go..

Essential Fatty Acid complex- as directed on label- good for reversing malnourishment that use of drugs causes
Vitamin B complex-- 100mgs of each b vitamin in a sublingual form or B complex injections from your doctor weekly
Extra B5-- 500mgs 3x per day, essential for the adrenal glands
Extra B3-- 500mgs 3x per day, important for brain function
Calcium- 1,500mg at bedtime
Magnesium--1,000 at bedtime
Free Form amino acid complex--as directed on label on a empty stomach
Extra L-glutamine-- 500mgs 3x per day needed to help produce GABA functioning
Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, use Ester C form. 1000mgs per day or 500mgs 2 x per day
Zinc--as directed on label do not exceed 100mgs daily from all supplements
Multi vitamin mineral complex- use high potency formula make sure yours contains roughly the equivalent of potassium 100mgs, iron 100mgs , manganese 6mg, copper 1mgs

This book is so interesting it even has a list of drugs and what nutrients get depleted... like asprin depletes calcium, folic acid, b vitamins, potassium, iron and Vitamins A and C.. interesting..

Thanks so much!  We're going to go shopping today to get these things.  I MUST be low on the B vitamins...I was telling Tim yesterday I feel like I'm getting dumber by the day...I seem to have no vocabulary recall lately...I get stuck on words like precocious versus presumptious, which totally don't mean even remotely the same thing.  It's really weird.

I don't think I've ever taken probiotics but have read some about them.  I will pick some of those up, also.  I really, really appreciate you taking the time to put this list together for me.  I'm hoping it helps me start feeling better quickly.

I got all of the vitamins with the exception of the Vitamin B complex - sublingual...I couldn't find that.  I bought a B complex oral.  Do you know if you can go to a walk-in clinic for the shots?  Being out of town, in a touristy place, we had a hard time finding a good vitamin shop.  We did some online searches, would track the address down using Streets and Trips, only to get there and find the place no longer existed.  So...I just got them all yesterday, so I can't really tell you if I'm noticing a difference yet...I'll let you know tomorrow after I've had a full day of taking them.  I'm hopeful!!

How is the new job going?  Are you enjoying it?  Is it less stressful?  I'm thinking about you and hope you find some relief for your pain and that you can lower your stress level...I know that helps chronic pain.  Also, one thing my Rheumatologist made me promise him...I would get 8 full hours of sleep a night.  He said this is essential for chronic pain sufferers.  I could never do it, but I hope you can!
