Muscle Relaxers??

Muscle Relaxers??

So I am asking this because I know many here also struggle with pain from actual conditions and injuries.. I have a pinched nerve, a herniated disc, a smashed disc, and scoleosis.  I am trying to find a muscle relaxer that is not addicting that will help me when I need it.. I have taken the following in the past..

Flexiril- helps some.. not all the time.. makes me sleepy
Skelaxin- didn't work at all
Soma- doesn't do anything for me.. I wonder how people get high from it.. I dont feel anything from it..
Robaxin- (do they even make this anymore?)  I took this one along time ago.. I remember it helping some..

I am just looking got info on whats out there I maybe haven't tried that would work for me..Thanks

The flexeril has been giving you the cluster headaches??  Ick.  I'm familiar with those headaches.  I'm debating myself whether or not to give the flexeril a shot for myself (for chronic daily tension headaches).....but in the past, it's always made me drowsy and in a fog the day after I took it at night.  So, I don't know.  Maybe my body has changed.  Anyway, did I understand correctly that you think it's the FLEXERIL that is causing the cluster headaches?  Just tryin' to figure all of this out.  Wish I could be of more help re: muscle relaxers.  I've taken some in the past, as well, but can't seem to remember anything other than the flexeril.  I'm doing research though and will see my dr. this week, and I'm planning to talk to him about that topic.  ~~~K.

Spehanie,

With your post on non addictive muscle relaxers, well I know that this advise probalbly won't cut it 100% for you with all your injuries, but when I have had joint, and muscle pain (well this is what took the pain away, so I don't need the Hydro's anymore,  this is what I took):

800 IB or 550mg of Naproxen 2 to 2 x daily (RX Perscription)

(Good Vitamin Shop)
Bottled (refrigerated Fish Oil, and Pressed Flaxseed Oil) they are all you essential fatty acids along with GLA which helps produce the good fatty tissues and fluid in your muscles and joints and...

1500mg Glucosamine / 1200 Chondroitin / 500-1000mg MSM

My knees were so bad, that not even the 7.5 Hydro's would take any of the pain away. As soon as I took what I listed above, within DAYS, I started to feel relieve and now and am 100% pain free from a 2 year chronic knee pain just in 3 weeks of taking these things above.

Even, if they give you a perscription for some other meds, try all the good stuff you can get at the nutrional stores along with it, and I know it will some!

God Bless,

Todd

I have not tried it.. my insurance kicks in next month maybe I will ask about it..  and hopefully now that my wedding is over with my stress level will go down and it will get a little better on its own. it has been alot worst for the past month.. my neck hurts so bad I can't turn my head all the way to the left at all. Heat helped loosen it up and i have doubled up on my massages lately.. I am gonna get a primary care doc soon and will get the MRI I need to find out whats happening.. Thanks for you help

Well, glad to hear that the flexeril isn't the thing giving you the cluster headaches (as we all know, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that a drug can eventually start giving us the very painful symptoms we're trying to take away!)  I have a very dear friend and neighbor who has severe neck problems and jaw problems.  She used to take flexeril (and still does, I think).....but more recently, in the last few months or so, has taken Mobic.  Seems to help her pretty well.  She still has flare ups on occasion but not to the same extent as before.  I know the Mobic is more of an anti-inflammatory, but also that it does contain some mild muscle relaxers.  Have you tried it?

What exactly is Soma?  Is it very similar to flexeril?  What's the ingredient, do you know?  I took flexeril many, many years ago for tension headaches, and somehow got totally away from that and onto the painkillers.  Actually, at one point, I think I was on both....but that's beside the point.  Anyway, I'm not familiar at all with Soma.  Have you taken both flexeril AND Soma, so that you can make a comparison, or have you just taken Soma?  Curious as to what your experience has been and what you've taken it for?  Do you take it every day/night?  Thanks!   ~~~K.
