My Doc packed up and left town...

About 6 months ago I started seeing a Dr. that was very encouraging, understanding and realistic. However, the company that he worked for decided that they will no longer treat patients for suboxone. In my very rural area there aren't many options of seeing other doctors. I was prescribed 16mg of Suboxone, 2mg of K-Pin, 10 mg zolpidem, 30mg mirtazapine, 150mg wellbutrin, .02mg clonidine and probably some more stuff. THEY UP AND TOLD ME ONE DAY, "YA WE WILL NO LONGER BE SEEING ANY PATIENTS BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO PRESCRIBE SUBOXONE ANY MORE. I'm not angry or upset. I'm shocked and and ready for the fight of my life. The last time I posted I didn't have much. I now am a marketing director at a very profitable company and they are considering the thought of making a new branch and placing me in a city to open a new store. My Salary would then most likely triple. Also, I have a beautiful loving girlfriend and a home. I don't want to lose this stuff because the doctor decided to just drop me. Nor do I want to go find another doctor for all these medications. They promised me that they would continue all of the other medications (which I only care for the clonidine and klonopin-for tapering, not addiction). My question is this, is this even legal? Can a doctor prescribe very strong dependent drugs then up and say "uh, we don't feel like seeing anyone for this any more?"

I want to get off of all this stuff. I started taking 8mg(suboxone) about 2 months ago because I had a feeling this was going to happen. So fortunately for me I'm ahead of the game. I have a pretty good suboxone taper schedule but I DO NOT for my k-pins or clonidine for that matter. I'm wondering what foods to eat. How often to excercise. If I should stay at home and do nothing, which I hate, or just try and continue life. 80% of this post is venting but maybe you can depict the other 20% of crying out for some help and be able to relate and offer some advice. The people at med help have been there for me for the past 8 years of this roller coaster and I feel sick of this ride. I want to get off, exit the amusement park and never return. (to the pills). why? because I simply don't need them. I've been on suboxone now for a total of 2.5 years seeing this last doctor for 6 months, if that gives you a better understanding. Same time frame for benzos. Before that I was abusing oxycontin, fentanyl, hydrocodone, blah blah blah. anyway, everyone have a great day and I hope you are in a better situation than I because at times it appears hopeless if I have to cold turkey benzos and suboxone at the same time. The ER in town won't even help me. I've tried before. I do go to church but have yet to find a church that I feel comfortable enough explaining the situation.

Thanks again,

JayFive  <----------- 1,000 points if you know where that is from :)

Ashton Manual for info re:  Benzos.
Subs:  I would race towards 2MG ASAP.  Jumping at 2mg is NOT recommended, just that 2mg is where the taper starts to get more serious.  If you have strips they are easily cut into smaller doses.  It took me about 3 - 4 days to adjust to the new dose.  I'm not going to make any suggestions about where you get strips.  My opinion is that success rates are much higher for patients using a long slow taper than for CT.

The maker tells you not to cut strips.  I can't tell you to ignore their warnings but many people have cut up strips and the makers still have not gotten approval for a low dose pill/strip to help with tapering.  Do what you think is best.  I got down to .25mg.  A week of moderate WDs and and a couple months of low energy.  I missed about 4 days sick over a 3 month window.

I read that exercise can shorten that low-energy period by 1/2.  It was suggested that 12 - 15 minutes per day using interval training.

Can doctors do this - cut you off.  Yes, and it should be criminal.  It violates any reasonable standard of care.  I stopped the suboxone for a number of reasons; one of the most compelling was that I didn't trust the system.  I was on a medication that could take 6 months to titrate off of and I could be kicked to the curb on any given day even if I did everthing perfectly.  I could lose my job, my family and who knows what else.  Theres a lot of sick disgusting things in this pharmaceutical/doctor/insurance business.  For many in this business its about money, not about care.  I just could not bet my future that they would be there for me. Come to think aboiut it, that's why I quit buying from illicit dealers too

I digress.  Taper as much as you can.   Remember how you were treated by these medical professionals in your town.  Remember how willing your church was to help you.  What you should realize is that your community sees you (unfairly) as a disposable junkie.  The only people you can count on are you real friends, real family and you.  Mlostly, its you.  Maybe it would be good to remember that when you're thinking of taking just a little bit, to feel a little better.

I come here and post because its very satisfying to interact with people, very brave people, who decide they've had enough and they want to change.  Its inspiring.  I look forward to see how your story turns out. Good Luck !!

Cheers

Hi Jay.
I hear your cries. Glad you have a plan to taper the subs, but I too am worried about the klons. As you know I came c/t off the Methadone and 2 other meds, one being the klons. My w/d this time was way longer and more intense. The pharmacist told me it was mostly due to the klons.(Benzos).

I did use the clonidine, which is a light BP med. This med you can get from most Drs. I would go to a new Dr and tell him/her your story and asked to be tapered from the klons. This med is a long lasting one and it is used for seizures and other mental reasons. They might even knock you down to a lighter benzo. They do know you should NOT stop a Benzo. It can be dangerous to your health.

One thing that gets me, is that in my town they will NOT give you a benzo when you are on subs. They even test the urine for this drug and will kick you off the program.
You have been on here a Long Time and know what we say to take and that you need to drink tons of water. Try getting some Airborne with the B or C in it. This is a med that was discovered before you get a cold or the flu. Get the emerge-C too. You can also pick up a box of Electro Mix that has the Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese, Calcium and Chromium in it. Add this to your water. This will help relax you a bit. Make sure you Eat very Healthy and stay away from the Caffeine, Sugars and Simple Carbs right now. These things will cause inflammation and irritability. You should know about the Epsom baths too.

I think you will be fine if you can keep on the BP med for awhile and get a weaker Benzo to taper off of.
I do wish you the best. Others will chime in too, as you know..Good Luck!!
Bless
