My Methadone Taper Working Great

My Methadone Taper Working Great

I have been tapering from doctor prescribed Methadone for chronic pain since June '08 and came to the forum here for more taper help the first of October, asking for titration specifics.
Thanks for all the support...
The more methadone I get out of my body, the better the days seem.  Today was glorious here and I can't remember enjoying a fall day this much in a long time..the colors seemed crisper, the smells more delicious, and I haven't had an increase in pain since my downward taper began.  The pain I experienced a couple of weeks ago was situational and I'm so far able to control my pain with Advil.
I am taking it VERY slowly.  Methadone is a total bear to withdraw from and I have sometimes been a bit over eager to get off it--impatient with the process and tired of spending months going downward.  However I see progress.
This month I bought my last prescription, told my doctor of my decision, got a plan for withdrawal comfort meds and made arrangements with 2 of my adult children to take care of me should it come to that point.
I expect the week of jumping off and some weeks after that to be difficult, yet I don't fear them.  I look forward to experiencing that difficulty because it will be a rebirth from the numbness of methadone, from the dumbing down that opiates have done to me for almost 10 years.
I am going down by 2.5mg now as I'm at the 20mg point-Saturday will be my drop below to 17.5mg and the highly touted "wall".
I'll post again after I've knocked the wall down ok?

I like your positive attitude, as it will come in very handy on those bad days, as you will have a few of these, as well as good ones. I tapered off metadone last June, and took my last 2mgs in April, in some ways it wasn't as bad as I thought, but in other ways it was worse then I anticipated, as it is very lengthy, still to this day almost 8 months later, I still have issues with lack of energy and anxiety, not that I want to set the stage for fear in your taper, I'm only talking about my personal recovery off methadone, the easy part is the taper, the hard part is when you are 0mgs, and this is when I reached out for support and did the best I could to stay positive. I hope the best for you, and keep us informed on your taper. Penelope

Hey there! Havent seen you around for a while. Really glad that things are still going so well for you! I know about the done. Very hard to "titrate" !!  I myself quit a little bit at a time? You keep it up - you are an inspiration to some of the airheads that stop by for sure! Look forward to hearing how the final phase works out. I think savas took it down to 1/4mg before he jumped. Great work.
