My Oxycontin Detox Struggle

I know there is tons of info on this all over the net. However I wanted to get some customized support and start a little journal in this thread. The things everyone does here in the addiction section is extremely helpfull and saves lives!!! Once I have recovered I will be sure to return the favor.

First off, I am 27, my name is Joseph and I am addicted to Oxycontin and Oxycodone and am about to cold turkey detox. Currently I am taking (and chewing) approx. 200mg of Oxycontin/Oxycodone a day. I have been on this regiment for about 2 years now. Today is May 27th (Wednsday). Tomorrow will be my first day sobber (Thursday). I am going to do this at my friends house for 7 days. He is a nurse and has off for this period of time. I have available to me (legit from a Doc.) Clonepin, sleeping medication (restoril) and muscle relaxers. I have experianced detox before, however it was situational and not a personal choice. Now that I have made the personal choice to quit (Even though I have not even run out, which in my opinion is a important factor) I am looking for a check list of preperations to make today as well as any tips and I will keep this thread updated day to day, (granted the forum allows this).

I need a quick checklist for EVERYTHING. Like dealing with Diahrea, foods to eat, over the counter supplements or vitamins, things that will possibly speed up the process and what to stay away from etc etc.

I will update this thread day to day with my progress. I thank everyone for taking the time to post here and help me out. The difference you make can mean a successfull detox!! Lastly, I will not take even 1 more for my entire life. So do not bother to mention taking one or two to ease the pain (I have heard this before) If you think it is better that I flush the medication today, than I will.

Thank you so much,
Joseph

P.S. I will be online likely through most of this, I use AIM and my SN is Time4fun7165 if anyone wants to shoot me a message. I do not mind having this info public.

Hi Joseph - Welcome and congrats.  Its a big step your taking and you will get tons of support here.  You may want to look at the Amino Acid Protocol (listed in the Health Pages - bottom right of screen)..  Many people have used these vitamins with great success.  I DO 100% suggest you flush all of your remaining stash as well as notify your supplier (possibly your doctor) of your problem and that you will not be needing any more.  Try immodium for stomache issues.  Eat as much healthy foods as you can - especially banannas and fruits.. something in the banannas is supposed to help out with restless legs.  Gatorade or Pedialyte to keep hydrated.  OTC pain relievers, like Advil can be somewhat helpful.  Dont know if the restoril will work but you can try it with some benadryl to help with sleep.  Hot showers or baths (or if you have one a sauna or jacuzzi), as many as you can handle for as long as possible, are probably the best way to combat the overall awful feeling.. I spent days in the shower during detox.  And like the above post says - exercise.. exercise.. exercise.. you probably wont be able to the first 2 days, but as soon as you can possibly stand it, get up, get out and take a walk.. It will help so much with the leg pain and help stimulate some endorphins.  Good luck to you and keep posting!

Hey, Congrat's on getting clean.  Sounds like you have a great plan. Don't forget some Immodium ( I personally didn't use it , I just wanted that poison out of me ASAP).  Make sure you drink plenty of fluid. It's very common to become dehydrated.  I know it's gonna be hard but try and get out of the house......short walk everyday. Good Luck and keep us posted.
