NA Books

by joann1975, Jun 24, 2008 10:41PM
For any of you that go to NA could you recommend which books to me helped you the most....I was going to order them online. I am not able to do meetings with my toddler. But I am a reader and would like to read as much as I can to educate myself more. I was looking at Basic Text & Just for Today for sure....but what about "It Works How & Why" & "The NA Step Working Guides" & they also have the booklets like "12 Concepts for NA Service" & "In Times of Illness".

If anybody has any knowledge of these would you please let me know what you think or which ones you recommend the most!

Thanks.....JoAnn

I was wondering the same thing joann. I'm a reader myself. I've found a few stories about addiction which i've printed off but no books. Anyone?

hey joann, kinda in the same spot. i am in a small town and tried AA, but in a smal town the dont welcome me very much. they dont see addiction as addiction and if alcholol is not my DOC they dont thimk i am in the right place. also want information to read. but i will tell you my dad sent me an AA book and said to do the work and just switch the DOC to pills. also he sent me a couple of other books for me to look at myself and why i liked to numb myself.  the book i loved and referance everyday for something is call
"the power of postive thinking" by norman pearle, he got it from amazon. at first as i read i was like i know this is how i should think (felt like i was learning nothing new) but as i read i see how i had to re-work my brain to have the right thought process. not really sure if this helps, but a great read.

No, I will take any book suggestions at this point and I appreciate that! I would like to figure out what it is I have been numbing....it's not so much the cravings but I am wanting to numb "something" or run from it....it's hard to explain....I don't feel on relapse verge but I am not dumb enough to think it's impossible at anytime.

So any recovery/addiction book suggestions are welcomed at this point

Beaten...NA let's you print alot of their literature off their website as well so I thought that was good!

Thanks in advance to all!

The books you named are about it and the just for today meditation book ( daily) is real good for a daily lift or sometimes the message for that day is right where your at.The step working guide could be helpful once you"ve read the basic and it works how and why, The 12 concepts could be further down the line. Big thing to remember is drugs is what brings you to na but only the 1st step mentions addiction all the rest are about change, repairing wrongs done (you start doing that when you quit useing) and it starts with little things that have nothing to do with drugs. Road rage for instance,,I had it,,now not so much,,things like that. Of course triggers (but for many like me a trigger was getting up in the morn) and most important,,why and prevention. gl,,pm me if you like
