NA is slightly different but they are newer. AA is old school..opiates , most narcotics and crap like extacy etc. etc... wasn't around when AA was founded....
The song remains the same. The message both carry is simple. "Theres another way of life besides drinking or drugging"
Get in where you fit it....IMO if a woman is new...its better to go to a womens only meeting if possible. Either place there are some great human beings ..much like this board.
The fundamental roots still hold true. When you help another recovering person you help yourself maintain sobriety,,,,
Keep your mind open and it will find it's way...

I have gone to both and find the relapse and glorification of awesome highs to be more present in NA(not always the case). More court ordered people end up in NA as well. I am mostly an opiate addict, but have had my share of alcohol, and find AA more sincere. Also, most people today are not pure alcoholics. Most people have done drugs as well. Addiction is addiction, so most people don't care. AA also keeps me from talking about getting high on drugs and focus on recovery. Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks everyone! I am not living on medhelp as I have done in the past as it consumes me and is just one more addiction to add to the list. Please know I am rooting for all of you and appreciate each and every one of you :)
I don't know enough about either to give you an answer. I went to my first NA meeting yesterday and met some very nice people. Lots of ex pill poppers like me! I will be going back. good luck on your taper! I'm new here so it's nice to "meet" you :)
This is only going by hearsay, but many like the format of AA and seem to think members in AA are more dedicated to recovery. I on the other hand (chicken **** that I am, besides being a secret detoxer go to Alanon). I qualify there as well and absorb in meetings as well as read all the books offered. Everyone is different and they say to try many as they are all unique in its vibe. Good to see you BTW.
Well, look what the cat dragged in!! So very happy to see you back here!! I don't really know the answer either, but maybe she thought you'd be more comfortable around just women? We've missed you!!!
Welcome back Eva.
I don't know about AA or NA but I just wanted to say hi and offer you any support that I can. Good luck with your taper and keep posting.
