Need Help

I am addicted to perks, I really want to get off of it. Can't stand it anymore, when i am almost close to being empty i go nuts hopping that my supplier does not run out and hate the fact and the feeling if i don't have any. Reason why I started taking the pills is that when i had my heart attack and 6 bypasses they started giving me perks for the chest pains and from there i am currently at 40 per day and some days more. Can anybody help me out in giving me step by step on how they did it and what they went thru.
Anybody, please help.

Fabio

Not a problem Pat, anytime. I am a man of my word. i walk the walk and talk the talk.....lol
Like i have been told by many of you on here, one day at a time, I will taper off slowly. I am going to see my doctor this week because i have to go get my results of my stress test after my 6 bypass heart surgery, I will talk to him about the perks that I am addicted to them.

Thanks a lot

Haha, Be careful.  I might take you up on that.  I live near Toronto and I LOVE Italian Food.  You are making me very hungry.

You can do this.  Keep going with your taper but don't rush it.  A slow taper works the best.  You were on an extremely high dose and I really hope you discuss a plan with your doctor.  Take good care of youself right now while you are tapering.

Morning ladies and gents, it is Monday morning November 12, I don't know if will make any sense or i am fooling myself here by saying that I am going to stop taking the perks when my company is closed for the xmas holidays and when there is nobody around where i live, this way they will not see me all messed up, i already put them thru a lot when I had my heart attack. In the mean time i will try to cut down on the amount of pills I take each time of the day.
Like I said yesterday, I was feeling sick because i did not take the amount of pills i usually take, that's why i was sick, I tried not taking them while I was at work, but I passed out on my desk and woke up in the afternoon aound 2pm, got home, still no pills and i passed out again, I got up again around 5pm and i was in pain, my legs were hurting like somebody hit me with a bat, I looked like an old 90 year old man. Felling that way there was no way I could be with my family (friends) and cook them dinner, (I love to cook, I used to be an executive chef) I did not take my regular amount, from 10 pills, I took 6 of them, it did the job, my legs were ok and my body was feeling better. After cooking a nice italian pasta dish following with a veal with white wine sauce (I am getting hungry again just thinking about it.....lol) went downstairs to my basement appartment, started to watch a movie then it was time to go to bed, I took 6 more 4 less than usual, it did the job, I slept fine and this morning at 4am got up and took another 6 and I am still going with that amount, hope that thru the day i will be fine with that amount. Keeping my fingers crossed and hope this way it will be easier to stop by the time I am alone at home during the xmas holidays.

Thanks a lot for the advise and support, If you guys don't mind I will kiip you informed on what is going on. One promise I would like to make, when all this is done and cleaned, even for a month or so, if any of you guys are around the city of Toronto, Ontario I will be glad to cook a nice italian meal since i love to cook.

Thanks a lot

Back in the days......when I would drop off a scrip and had to wait for the refill time, I most always had been out of pills the night b4.  Just the 4 or 5 hrs from the time I got up, to getting the script, to the pharmacy, to waiting to pick it up, I'd be going into a quick shop and puking in the bathroom!

You really can't skip the first 10 pills the first day.  I agree that with your diabetes and heart issues, it would be really safe to have a medical plan to wean down.  If you had just taken 5 this a.m. or SOME......you probably wouldn't have thrown up (or at least not like you did).  Your body literally is going into instant w/drawals by skipping that high of a dose.

I'm glad all this is helping you.  Your plan to totally get off the pills when no one is "watching" may be good, but there needs to be someone you can call should you need to.  After you see your Dr and start tapering SOME from those 40 pills/day.....you have a better chance of not being sick so radically and quickly. And your bloodwork will show a lot about what is going on inside.
When you get down to a lower amt, and stablize there for a few days, you can continue to cut more and more.  Maybe by the time your family goes on their Christmas trip you will be weaned down enough to jump off altogether.  Pls get some medical input since you have  those other issues OK? Going CT from 40 pills is dangerous (imo).  As addicts we tend to do everything in our lives to the EXTREME.  That "all or nothing" mentality.  It gets me everytime!

It's real important to tell your dr that you are an addict and you want help in a taper plan.  If you cut off your sources for MORE pills, share your addiction with someone so it's not just YOUR secret, and get to some NA mtgs, AA mtgs, one-on-one counseling.....whatever works for you.  But you will simply be amazed at the love and support you will receive.  Other addicts really RELATE and understand to the core what you are living right now.  (most folks that don't do those 3 things relapse.....sooner or later)

It's kinda like trying to drive a car long distance without extra gas, oil or on bald tires,ha)  Something's gonna "run out" sooner or later!

So glad to have you around!  You CAN do this and be FREE!......gather your info, see your dr., start a taper, and set your clean date.  We'll be here to cheer you on or listen or whatever you need.
Blessings to you~

I would say to at least try to taper first, you take 4 times as much percs as I did, so if you were to quit CT now, your withdrawals will be 4x worse, plus your have medical conditions.  See your doctor, they do help. my doctor gave me a withdrawal package that included pills for nausea, diarreah, anxiety, pain or aches.

Here are the events of my first 3 days of withdrawals:

I took my last 4 percs thursday night at 10 pm,

Friday morning I felt fine, then the afternoon is when I felt sweaty, weak, headache, felt some anxiety. I still had appetite and i did eat all day. I slept a normal 7 hours that night

Saturday very lightheaded, tired, no energy, but I was still able to eat great, I did not have nausea, did not have diareah, i was not achy. I slept off and on all day long.  But i had a very restless sleep at night, and my legs felt a little achy.  I slept about 6 hours.

Today I feel a little better, the lightheadness has eased a little, I have a little more energy, and I plan on getting out of this house today.

As you see it wasn't that bad, I thought it was going to be much much worse.   I am so glad I found this site.  It has helped me see that I am not alone in this fight to regain my life.  I wish you all the stength and courage to fight for yours.

Oh no I'm so sorry that you're feeling so awful! I'm so happy that you're going to get off these pills, but in your situation I really think you need to talk to a doctor before going cold turkey. You're abusing with a very high doseage and you have diabetes/heart issues. I'm not a doctor but it really does not sound safe for you to just stop cold turkey. Please talk to you doctor and if you want to quit before doing so then do a very slow taper. Good luck and keep posting. I know you're going to this but please stay safe during the process.

Thanks for all the advise that you guys are giving me on what I have to look forward too, there is a lot to consider and a lot of things that are going to happen to me while i try to come off. I am for sure going to talk to my doctor about the addiction with the perks. What is holding me back from trying right now is having the people i live with see me while i get off, I will be honest here that I have already decided to try to quit cold turkey the week they leave to go to Florida for the XMas holidays and I would be home alone to start. I was thinking all this yesterday after reading the answers from you guys until this morning, I woke up at my regular time 4am, sitting on the couch, took my regular medication for my dieabeties, medecation from my heart attck and i was about to grab my 10 perks but for some reason i did not take them and i passed out sleeping because i was tired. I woke up at 6:30 am and this time i got up got ready and once i was ready to leave i was feeling like ****, i knew something was wrong so i ran to the bathroom and i started to trow up liquid. For some reason i was thinking it is because i did not take the perks at the regular time, am i right or wrong? I went to work still not have taken the perks, after a few hours it started again, i trew up, I went to my office and sat down and i fell asleep till now 1:15 or so and started to type this note and i still have not taken any but i feel very cold and my body is killing me, i don't think i will be able to do this with out having the people i live with know what is going on with me. Any advise?

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Addiction/Ingredients-that-Help-with-Opiate-Withdrawal/show/593?cid=66

If you want some specifics, the article above has some for you.
There are many more there with tips about what to get ready, have ready and what to expect.  Lots of experience and good info there from people that have walked in the exact same shoes you are.

I know I already suggested this, but you asked the question again so I thought I'd paste the link of at least one of them here for you.

As many as you are taking, tapering first would be wise.  I was at 20-30 (10mg) per day and weaned down to 10 pills a day before I jumped and went ct.  Just remember.....you have to cut off your sources and prepare ahead of time like you are now by asking questions.  That's good.
You can do it.....safely and successfully......by equipping yourself.
But.....you HAVE to go thru the nasties.......to get to the goodies..
(and your brain has to learn that "the goodies" aren't pills LOL!)
Keep posting.....keep learning....we will all be here to help.

Hey there, how's it going?  I tried tapering.....over and over again.  Once I would hit day 1 or 2 of nothing I would talk myself into how much I needed them and for whatever reason I could come up with.  Had to make it through the day, just had to get through this holiday, couldn't afford to take time off work (hahaha I laugh at that one as I was spending between $120 - 180 a day for pills, and not clearing that much where I work so quitting and taking time off made me money)....you get the idea.  But you should consult a medical professional especially if you have any health concerns.  I am brand new clean.  Just finishing day 7 without and I feel really good.  I had myself convinced that I needed the pills just to have the energy to get me through the day, but the energy I have now is way more.  You asked what to expect...pure hell.  Day 1 I was bitchy, irritable, sad.  Day 2, 3 & 4 I thought I was going to die, day 5 I was actually able to get out of bed and have a bath and even wash my hair, day six I went outside and today I have been up and at it since the baby woke up at 8:00am and I have accomplished more today then I have in the last month!!!!!!!!!!!!  It was awful but worth every second.  Look back at my posts, I didn't think I would make it.  Didn't think it was worth it, but I am so glad I have gotten this far.  Things are very good.  Keep on here these people are lifesavers!!!!!!!!  Be smarter than me, get prepared and get stuff done before you stop all together.

The first step is admitting you have a problem and the second step is get support from other addicts! This is a great start! If you can find your local NA meeting I suggest you go to as many as you can every day! Get a support group and speak up, you are only as sick as your secrets so talk, talk, talk, about it until you can't talk anymore! Take it one minute at a time until it gets better then take it one day at a time! I will be praying for you!

Oh wow 40 perks a day is WAY WAY to much Tylenol that is absolutely DESTROYNG your liver. I know how you feel about your job and all that as I felt the same way but you have got to look out for yourself. When I see something like this honestly the high amount of Tylenol worries me more than the actual narcotic(oxycodone) in the Percocet. I would HIGHLY suggest you go to a doctor about this and talk to him about your addiction and your liver. I know this is not what you wanna hear but I do hope this scares you because without knowing you at all this worries me. I really hope you can see a doctor to help ya and make sure your liver is doing ok.

Good Luck and Godspeed

I found this site 2 weeks ago, and it and everyone has been so helping.  I am currently on day 2 of cold turkey. I also was addicted to percs.

I tried the tapering method but didnt work to well, as did alot of others on here.  Please get advice from your doctor he/she will support you  and I know that you desperately need that support.

I am most afraid of getting off the perks because of my job, I have a lot of responsibilities and deadlines to meet, I have my guys that depend on me when they have question when it is in regards to work, they depend on me, I am afraid that while i get off or try to cut down on them i would feel like **** and not be myself. Can somebody tell me what are the things that i will face, what i mean is, pain, the way i think, my body would be in a state of shock. What i can remember, one time my supplier did not have and perks one day and that night i was feeling like a mack truck hit me, the morning after being up all night my body and legs the most were killing me, is there anything i can take for that situation?

Thanks for the help in giving me the heads up on what i am up agaist the days ahead. I take about 40 perks per day or more but i take them 9 to 10 pills (perks) at a time 4 times a day. I start taking 10 as soon as i wake up around 4am, them by 10:30am i take 8, in the afternoon at around 2:30 to 3:00pm i take 9 of them then before i leave my office i would take 8 of them around 6pm, i would get home have my dinner, relax on the couch and then around 8:30 - 9:00 pm i would take 9 and then i will go to bed and start my day all over again, on weekends i would take more of them because i have nobody around to bug me at home or at my office. My question is where to i begin to taper off or cut down on the perks?

This is definitely a great first step.  You are very lucky to find it before trying.  I wasn't so smart, I was struggling on day 3 before I even thought to look for help.  Without this site I would be back using again for sure.  Listen to the people here they know what they are talking about.  They are smart and we all know what its like.  Ask lots of questions. Good luck!

Welcome to you!  Glad you are here and asking questions...that's how you get started.
As you are reading and learning about opiate addiction and getting off the pills, it may help you a lot to read the Health Pages on this site.
I didn't find them for a long time.....and they would have really helped me (and do now, actually).  I just didn't know about them and wasn't scrolling down far enough to ever see them.  I had NO experience on a site like this and was just plain ignorant!
If you scroll down all the way and look on the right hand side for "Most Viewed Health Pages" you will also see a place at the bottom of that box that says "see all health pages". Tons and tons of helpful info there.  Pros and cons of a lot of "methods", ways to help w/drawals, taking subs or not,
just a wealth of info there.
You can do this.....and we'll all be here to help you!
Glad you found this site now.......I was close to 60 days clean before I ever got on here......and those days were even tougher for me because I didn't have all this support, understanding and love.
Blessings to you!

Hi and welcome to this amazing board! You are definitely in the right place and congratulations on being ready to take your life back!!!

I would suggest tapering, but definitely talk to your doctor first (especially with past heart / health issues).

You can do this and live a happy and healthy life again. I've seen many on here who were way worse than you (as far as drug of choice and doseage) and now they are drug free and loving life again!

I've been where you are: continuous pill counting / pill chasing / needing a pill to do anything and go anywhere. I could almost confidently say just about everyone on this board has been there. SO, you have more support than you could ever even want :) !

Please keep posting and welcome to the family!

Hi ,  Welcome , Before doing anything , you have some Medical needs that should first be checked by your Dr.s .  Ask there advise tell the whole truth and start from there .
Do your pills come from your Dr or a street seller ? When ready post your daily dose and how long you have been on the pills .
Many here can offer advise that will help , These people have been where you are and have gotten free of pain pills themself , This can be done , you can do it .
Taper or cold turkey is the choice . Medhelp does not allow the posting of tapering plans .
If you chose to try tapering message me and i will tell you what i went thru and what to expect . But first the Dr.s OK is needed....... Ron  51 days pain pill free thanks to the people on this sites advise & support .

First..Welcome to our forum. You will get some great advice here and when your feeling down this is definitly the place to stop!
Having said that we cant tell you "how" to taper off becuase we dont know your health history.
But I can tell you that everyday gets a little easier off of the meds. Since you take them force chest pain I would talk to your dr since you feel that you now have a problem. Withdrawls are going to happen regardless of how you stop. Start taking a multi vitamin such as Magnesium, Omega 3's and B12. They help with your energy level. And make sure while your going through the w/d's that you eat. Even if you dont feel like it. You need food for energy. Take hot (and I mean HOT) showers during the process. They will help with the crawling feeling. It helped me sleep for a good two hours. You can do this. But you have to do the work. Best of luck to you.

I'm just at 4 days but absolutely stay on here it has helped so much. I spent the first 3 days reading everyone's post and it made me feel like I'm not the monster I was just an addict! My fault I can't blame it on my dr for leaving me on them for 18 years! My own choice but you found a great site!

I'm new here only 13 days clean but you should probably try to taper down before going ct. Are you taking 40 pills or 40 mg's? Just stay on here and some others can offer some good advice.
