Need a non nicotine method to stop smoking

by JohnyH, Mar 19, 2007 12:00AM
I am great need to quit smoking.   I had spainal fusion at C6/C7 done in early Jan 2007.   I have had complications with that and am still on the long road to recovery.

I know smoking can damnage the fusion process.   My Suregon was actually not that concerned about that however every medical refrence I have seen says how damnaging it can be.

I have tried both types of RX stop smoking drugs and both of them caused me to feel great depressoin,  since I am already depressed about my current medical condtion I stoppedd taking them.

I have actually considered checking myself into a phyic unit where I can't smoke.  I have not tried laser treatment and my docs office is not the type that is going to help or consult with me on this topic.   I don't want to further complicate this ACDF with drugs or substances not tested with ACDF

Since I am still in a great deal of pain its tough to quit and add the pain of not smoking on top of it.

I have time still for the fusion to occur however I have been told that no other doctor will see me until the surgeon that did my ACDF would release me to be treated by someone elese  I find that hard to believe but I have heard that from two medical souuces  lasttime I checked this was still a free country.

I believe with a supportive medical team I could overcome how difficult this has been I am 35 years old and too young to live disabled from what should have been a fairly common mediccal prataice.    Is there anywhere I can turn for help?

for me smoking was all about keeping my hands busy and the rituals associated with it eg roll yr owns, hand 2 mouth, etc.altho i am tapering off opiates i never considered this method 2 stop smokin.replacement therapies like patches and gum never appealed either.what i ended up doing was to buy a ton of lollypops.everytime i felt like a smoke i would unwrap a lollypop and suck.admitedly i was detemined 2 stop and think i would of done it neway but i genuinely blieve that the lollypop method helped

FLaddict said it for me. I'm only a month in, but yes whyquit.com has been my only resource and it has worked great so far. If you like to read, it's a good place to be!

I think the first step you've done!! Saying outloud you need to quit...
Try writing down the reasons why...
And ask yourself why do you want to quit?
What will be beneficial if you quit? Pros vs. Cons
What makes you want a smoke?
What doesnt make you want a smoke?
What emotions trigger the craving of a smoke?

Try that...and take a good look see..and post it someplace wher eyou can see it..and tips...

Have carrots and celery in the fridge ready to be eaten...Yogourt, fruit...All that jazz...Trust me it helps...

Soak in ginger root......or epson salts daily for like a week....

Put post its around the house of things that are postive...and reflect your urge to quit...

I know alot of htat sounds really corny.....but It really does help to see what are triggers are....and waht emotions trigger smoking....Drinking coffee and having a smoke is my weakness....Try to change your schedule down a little bit...

While you are STILL smoking....on your pack...Write down the times you have a smoke........in small writing there might be alot of smokes....do that all the time..See how long you can go without a smoke......and learn to make those times last longer......

It realy does help to cut back and even quit...I've done it......I currently went back to smoking but only because of my own selffishness.......but I only smoke on average a pack a week......So from going to that...from a pack or over a day...I think Im doing pretty good....Most of it is sounds really weird..but it does help!!

The soaking in baths...is to take the toxians out of your body.........and help drain you from the nicotine and anything else you put in your body....I dont know you so....HOpe all this helps to some degree...
