I am not sure a doctor can help with this type of addiction, he needs some intensive inpatient rehab and i am talking long term....

I used meth for about 5 years straight every day.  Meth was easier for me to quit then vikes.  If he really wants to quit, he will have no problem.

i have a brother-in-law  that WAS using meth for 27 years(everyday) 2 weeks before christmas he o'd was on life support the drs called us in and told us to make arrangements to bury him cuz when they took him off life support he wouldn't live long.  long story short, he woke up about 3 hours before they were going to remove the support.  nothing like dying from a drug to wake you up.  he has been clean since that day.  he still craves but the dr told him it is not using or not using for him, it is not using or dying.  that is how bad meth is. it is very dangerous. good luck to you and your brother.

Horrible horrible horrible stuff... he should see a doctor, hope all goes well.  He should realy stop that NOW.  It'll take a while to even begin to be normal, but it can happen.  Get him off it now.  It's not worth it!

I'm in the same boat lost_myself....  Only I have an identicle twin brother who is a few minutes older than me.  He has had the addiction for approximately 5 years.  I'm talking methamphetamine here and am assuming that is what you're talking about and not methadone.

Anyway, he has lost everything and I mean every stinking thing that he has ever had including his home, car, wife kids, respect, etc...  He has burned so many people that no one really wants to offer their help anymore.  He's basically on a dead end road with no light at the end of the tunnel right now.  With that being said I really sympathize with your brothers problem.  My bro and I were best friends for 35 years, I moved and then his life went downhill.  He's currently in jail for other meth related crimes.

I can tell you from first hand experience that unless he gets some professional help he's in serious trouble (if he's not already after 10 years)  Meth addicts have the lowest recovery rate than any other type of drug user.  You really need to lead him towards some professional help.  I really hope that he is willing to at least entertain the though.  My brother won't so there he sits in jail.... :(

I recently lost a friend to crystal meth.  very strong stuff.  I suggest rehab.  there's a television show.  i believe it's on TLC (cable channel).  it's called intervention.  there are lots of meth addicts on that show.  they don't show a whole lot as far as the actual rehab goes, but they show quite a bit of what they are going through during the addiciton.  I suggest watching it if you don't really understand what he's going through.  Meth has such a strong grip on it's users that they know very well how dangerous it is and just can stop.  He WILL need professional help if he really wants to quit for good.  it's a very long road and he'll need every ounce of support he can get.  I wish you only the best.

Hello, my best advice would be to go and see a doctor, because with a habit like that for that amount of time, his doctor may have some suggestions and or something to help him out.  Some people are afraid to do this, however, it is always kept private, and doctors must be very well educated in prescription drugs, as well as street drugs, keep posting, and good luck, BA...
