New here

I've been on hydrocodone for almost 5 years now. I'm very scared. It sounds like there's no easy way to do it. That no matter what it's going to suck. I've gone through withdrawels and ... ITS THE WORST THING IVE EVER GONE THROUGH IN MY LIFE! I'm officially scared to death to ever go through it again. I don't know what to do. I don't know what I should do to get off of them. Please help. I can't CANT handle the withdrawels.

Hi,

Are you taking these pills for pain or to get high?  Are they prescribed by a doctor?

You say you "can't handle withdrawals" but I'm going to disagree with you.  You CAN handle withdrawals.   It's going to feel bad for a few weeks, and then you'll have your life back.

What is the worst part of the w/d's for you...is it the mental or the physical stuff?   Do you have cravings, or do you just get really sick?

Talk to us some more.  You can do this.  People have done much harder things that this; the human body and mind is an amazing thing.

Don't let fear blackmail you into living the life you deserve.

If you are using these pills to get high (and buying them off the street) does your doctor know?   I would confess to him/her about what's going on.  Find out what a medical professional, who knows your body and health history, has to say.

Good luck..

Can I just amend what I said a little because I don't want to sound like I'm rubbishing the doctor.  What I mean is that as far as a plan to come off a doctor won't actually be able to help with much aside from prescribing more meds as they just haven't been there themselves and don't fully understand the process.

By all means though see the doctor, what I'm trying to say is go and see him/her with a plan already in mind.  Have a look at the "Thomas Recipe", it should be at the bottom of this homepage, or google it.  They can help with a few recommended meds to help with sleep and anxiety if you feel they will be useful.

A plan involves more than just the quitting phase though as it is staying clean which is the most challenging and here is a place where you can find support and advice from people who truly understand what you are going through and can help through the entire process.

Hey there, I'm sorry to hear you're in this predicament.  It's not pleasant and we definitely all know it's scary.

What you need to do is make some observations about the situation so you can put things into perspective without your thoughts running away on you.  Withdrawal is not fun, I think we can all agree on that.  But this feeling of "I can't do it" is an illusion created by fear, which is essentially your thoughts.  The reality of the situation is the mind does not want to do it because it is projecting the past suffering into the future and deciding it does not like what it sees.  You most definitely can do it and it won't kill you, it's just fear that is telling you you cannot.

At this point we need to know more about your situation so we can offer some tailored advice.  What was your dose?  Reasons for use etc.  I read your other post and you mentioned going to a Dr. in a month to discuss this.  Start now hun, you don't need a Doctor.  We are more knowledgeable then he/she will be on this subject and all they can do that we can't is try to put you on a program of harder drugs in order to "get you off" the hydrocodone you're currently on.

Anyhu's though, more of your story please :) Keep posting and there's a whole lot of good advice here from people who know exactly where you are because they've been there themselves.

Yes, we need to know how much you were taking daily. Regardless of your answer, I can tell you that this is not as bad as you believe it is or will be. I know it is scary, but I promise you it is worth it. Depending on how much you were taking, you will be feeling very flu like in the beginning. But the physical part doesn't last too long if you were only taking hydrocodone. The part that is difficult is the mental part. Cravings suck, but you can get past it. We all have gotten past it at some point. Even those of us who relapsed were clean for a while, and we got past it. I promise you that you will get really good advice here. Keep posting, and people will help you. There is more traffic after work ends.

I keep checking to see if anyone's out there to talk to me. I could use support. Anything right now. I'm still taking painkillers but I need want to stop. But I'm VERY scared. I CANNOT handle withdrwawels. I know for a fact I can't handle it. So that leaves me with having to take suboxone or something right?
