New methadone user

I havent posted since May. My counselor suggested a methadone clinic for me after 5 years of pain pill addiction. I had to do something! I teach, and have to go to dose almost every morning! Im up to 75  mg. Im already sick of the burden of this new "treatment." Im ready to tell the clinic this is not for me and start to taper down. Any insight would be helpful. Im hoping the clinic will understand and work with me so i can taper down.

hi David....well I always hate to see people wind up at the clinic but it is what it is....how long have you been on it???? from your post it seams not to long....the best thing you can do is start to taper off I was on it at 150mg for 7yrs  it took me 8 1/2 mo to taper off  like lisa said you can taper fast in the begging  but the lower you go the harder it is....one thing that will help is a 3 in 1 vitamin calcium magnesum and zinc...you can get a big bottle at walmart for 6 bucks  take 4 with breakfast and 4 with dinner  in a few days it will greatly cut down on the withdrawals your going to feel..it is impossible to get around the withdrawal but it can be managed...you sort of go in and out of withdrawals as you drop dose...always let your body be the final judge in when you drop doses this is a race one by the tortus not the hair  just know you can get off the stuff take your time...we will be here to support you so post often it would also be a good idea to get involved with the N/A progam...long after the pills  stop your still stuck with the addict in your head.....just know your not alone in this any more we will be there for you

Hi Davidmel I remember you.. Welcome back I'm sorry it is under these circumstances.. Methadone clinics are in it for the money, Just a different dealer. They bump everyone up as in do you still crave Hell yes I crave I'm a addict as you are nodding out... This really makes me angry as even 20mg of Methadone has a powerful effect and is used in pain management as a therapeutic dose. The clinic will help you to taper at 5mg. a week This is doable as You really do not feel the wd till you get to the lower amounts.. It seems you went from the pot to the fire as for dealing with wd Methadone wd are one of the longest but if you taper slow enough in the end you can negate that.. well these are my thoughts on this I hope you hear from others and I wish you well on your Journey to personal Freedom.. lesa
