New to quitting

Hi,
I've been taking dilaudid and then oxycodone for the past 4 years. I've known I have a problem for a while now but just kept ignoring all the warning signs. My question is are there home remedies that can get me through? I'm starting to feel the effects and am a little freaked out. After having kicked alcohol 14 years ago, I know how bad I could feel by tonight.

Hi and welcome. Check out the Thomas recipe in the Health Pages of this site. There are vitamins and supplements listed that will help ease the symptoms. First and foremost, get Immodium because you will have stomach problems, plus it has properties that help ease withdrawal. Make sure you stock up on Gatorade or something like that to replenish what comes out. Eat foods that are light on the stomach such as rice, toast, broth, soup and crackers, bananas for potassium which helps with the restless legs. Herbal teas are soothing too. Sleepytime with honey, lemon, and a peppermint stick helped me relax. The worst of the physical symptoms should ease after about 4 to 6 days, but everyone is different.

Best of luck and keep posting!

I kept telling myself...YOU HAVE the FLU!  It will be over and I will feel so much better.  My brain seemed to get that and settled down a little.  It is hard, but doable!  The Thomas Recipe (bottom of the page) under Health Pages will help.  I did not to the tranquilizers and had to cut back on the Ltryosine, but the rest really helped.  Imodium (immodium), Imodium (immodium), Imodium (immodium) (liquid or pills if the liquid can't be found or you can't swallow it) will help.  I took double the dosage for a few days (personal choice) and it helped so much..even with the withdrawals in general and the opiate trots which sucked.

Hydrate and eat! ((gatorade is good) Even if it is just a little every hour or so.(boost or ensure might work for both food and drink)  You have to eat something to keep your energy up as much as possible.

If you have Restless legs..it is hit or miss what works.  Walking seemed to help me some.  Hot bath with epsom salts..a little.  I finally had to get my doctor to refill my restless legs meds (non addictive) to get some sleep.  If nothing works, your doctor might help.  Benedryl or OTC Alteril helps some with sleep issues and you will have them.

One hour at a time is all anyone can ask.  After 2 weeks it gets a little better and I started to say, One day at a time!  Your brain will do all sorts of things to get you to take a pill.  I found if I was hungry..the cravings got worse.  I would try to eat a banana, a few grapes or a few crackers to get that under control.

The hardest part comes after the detox.  Your brain will be all over the place and will try to get you back on the pills...It is having to work and not depend on the pills to help.

Good for you.  I hope all goes well.  You have made a good start coming here....this site has helped me so much!!!  Keep posting!!!!!

Hold your head up, just quit them. If you have any left get rid of them now, because about 36 hours in you wil relapse if you have some readily available,

Immodium AD helped me trememdously, I think it was like a failed narcotic so it attaches to the same receptors as opiates. Drink lots of water, take lots of hot baths if you can handle the water, get you plenty of OTC sleeping medicine. Tell a friend what you are doing and to check on you. Its such of an amazing feeling on the day you wake up refreshed, replenished, and when this day comes go out by some new clothes and become you again. GOOD LUCK

I'm on day 4 and feeling pretty bad. Is day 5 usually the worst?

everyone is different.  Days 3-4 are usually the worst.  Hopefully day 5 will be your turnaround.  Keep the faith and be sure to drink plenty of liquids and try to eat.  Your body needs the food to heal.  Congrats on day 4!
