New to using Ultram for back pain

by Louie07, Mar 01, 2007 12:00AM
I have just been diagnosed with Facet Joint Syndrome which causes severe back pain. My doctor put me on Ultram for the pain. I take 2-3 tablets (50mgs each) per day. I have never had a problem with addiction and have taken Darvocet on several times for various problems and never had a problem with it. After reading about people having difficulty with Ultram addiction, I am a little concerned. Does the average person, with no personal or family history of addiction need to be concerned about addiction to Ultram if it is taken exactly as prescribed under a Pain Management/Orthopedist's dirction?

My only histroy is a bout of anorexia about 15-20 years ago. I have noticed that Ultram has reduced my appetite, (I weigh about 5 pounds under my recommended weight, so can't afford to loose too much appetite) but other than that, no side effects.

Any information anyone could share with me would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I took Ultram for pain and it did not work.  If it is making the pain manageble I think you are safe.  It had no effect on me whatsoever. I have heard others say it is addictive though.  Stay on the forum and you may get answers from others that know about it.  Others that have used it longer.   Good Luck!
Peace~

Ultram is not a narcotic.....

It is prescribed for mild pain and is also given to
drug seeking patients instead of narcotics...

Its narcotic enough for me!  I've been addicted for 2 years!  I'm in the process of weaning off and the withdraw symptoms are horrible.  I knew the risk and took them anyway, but omg, if I knew it would really be this way, like you physically felt like you would die, then I never would have taken them.  I'm not saying taking a few for pain will get you addicted, but be very careful only to take them when you really need them.  You do not want to get addicted like I did.  (My addiction started after a car accident.)

I agree.  I am addicted because of herniated discs.  I ended up calling treatment centers today.  They told me "NOT FOR TRAMADOL (Ultram)."  ONLY TAKE THE PRESCRIBED AMOUNT!!  I am up this late tonight because I am going through HORRIBLE withdrawls and keeping my fiance' up.  I got on the PC to see if anyone else had these symptoms from taking this and this site is what I found.  The docs will tell you that you won't have withdrawls, etc.  BULLCRAP.
