Norco and xanax

My husband is taking norco for back pain, but our family  doctor keeps letting him get to the end of the prescription and then going for a day or two without giving him any..so he goes through horrible withdrawls. She doesn't get it, and we will be going to a pain mgmt dr soon, but not soon enough. I read that he could take xanax to help him feel better when he doesn't have the norco to take. Any thoughts or knowledge on this subject?   Thank you

Fladdict is correct, but this isn't a true addiction. Xanax can cause physical dependency within two weeks. The last thing that anyone with your husband's condition needs is a Xanax withdrawal. It is usually a bizarre condition possibly accompanied by hideous pain 24/7. There is no medical cure. Tapering or titrating the drug is the only way out. Medical people often have no respect  for those they have made benzo dependent. The patient can become a victim all over again when the drug is withdrawn.

You're on your own with this so stay away from a benzo by any name.

I would really suggest you ask this on the Pain management forum the advice you get here may not be suitable for his situation.  everyone here abuses their pills and runs out long before refill day, or buys them on the street.

i will say that I would not make taking xanax a habit to get through until refill day. they are highly addictive and dangerous to stop taking once you are addicted which doesn't take very long.
