OMG...I need some advice!!

As some of you know, I have been on subs for 4 years. I am tapering b/c I want to get off. I have been seeing the same doc for the entire 4 years. I recently (last mth) lost my insurance and wasn't able to go to my last appt w/ her for financial reasons. I emailed her 2 days ago and explained to her about the insurance and how I couldn't afford to pay to see her much less the subs anymore. I also told her how I'm really nervous about the insomnia and the anxiety that's going to come along w/ the w/ds. I asked her to please give me some advice on the smoothest way to get off the subs. She emailed me back and told me the only thing I could really do was to taper and take some time of work b/c I was going to be pretty sick. She also asked me if I had a primary care doc. I emailed her back and told her I do, but she's not an actual doc, she's a nurse prac. She just emailed me and told me that I probaly needed to contact my nurse prac and see if she could give me something to take the edge off. I am just livid!! I have been seeing this doctor for 4 YEARS and have NEVER relapsed while on the subs and I have been on them daily. And now she's basically telling me she can't/won't give me anything to help w/ the w/ds??? I just don't know what to do!! Please help!!

Hey, well, I really was inconsistent w/ my tapering, really only the last 3-4 days did i start recucing from 1 pill a day.  I was up to four several mos. ago.  Regardless of my efforts, I think that pain was inevitable and your just gonna feel < than when you took drugs.  I am not the strongest individual, that is for sure.  I feel your pain, I kicked heroin SOO many times, methadone as well.  Know This, It gets better every day.  You will feel discomfort and pain.  Plan on being lethargic and not hungry for a week or so, drink lots of water,  the more difficult brain exercise you do, the easier sleep will come.  I would play chess or do sodoku for about 5-10 minutes and then nearly pass out.  I attatched leg weights to my ankles so when I "kicked", I was actually excersising.  This makes people laugh.  Lastly, and most importantly, PEOPLE.  Have an audience, even if it is thru this network to know that you are not alone and people do care.  Think love and be love and at your age, this too shall pass, but sooner.
PS; MAN UP for your beautiful kid's sake!  Bless you,
7 days

Thank you all so much!! I was just shocked that she acted like she couldn't help me anymore. I mean, 4 years....I spent every month seeing her! And I know that nurse prac are limited as to what they can prescribe, so that's why I was so mad! But, I can do this!!!
Foreverannie, I am just curious.....how often did you taper??

it could be that her license is at stake calling in drugs for u in another state..not sure...but if the ns practioner will not work with u, then find another...also save those emails and print them to show to the new health care provider...if need be perhaps she can write them a letter or give them a call to give ur past medical history/also ur medical records at her office belong to u and u can request them to take the ur new hc provider....tapering down with what u have left will help....if the new hc provider can give u sumpin for sleep, anxiety etc it would help....but a ns practioner is limited on what they can prescribe...no narcotics or benzos...i think they can rx muscle relaxers and drugs like ambien..phenergan is a great/safe/ drug that she can rx and will help with sleep, tummy issues, and in small doses like 12.5/with anxiety as well..it is an antihistamine so it helps with the runny nose people get with wd as well...also walmart has otc drugs like imodium, valerian root, melatonin, the aminos like 5htp, theanine, phenylalnine, tyrosine which can all help you right now with a big dose of exercise...EmergenC was a life saver for me during detox..3-4 glasses a day...be safe and keep posting

I have been completely off subs for 7 days. I tapered down to less  than i milligram, then quit. Just cut your dose in half and taper off more and more, as low as you can go then when you run out, your done. I would definately contact thew Nurse Practioner immediately or try to get a Doctor. They will give you muscle relaxers. Start taking a multivitamin and amino acids right away.
Your legs will cramp, hot cold flashes etc., but TRUST ME, it is all worth it. I am low on energy, but I can see clear now and I feel emotions that (I was on subs for 4 years) I hadnn't felt in a long time. Try to take a week off work... and Good Luck to you. Please let me know if I can help you more.
