OXYCOTIN (Methadone vs. Suboxone)

OXYCOTIN (Methadone vs. Suboxone)

For Oxycotin which is better: Methadone or Suboxone? For 9 days I have been going to the Methadone clinic. It is $65 a week which isn't that much compared to what I was spending on Oxycotins (usually 300-$1,200 per wk.) After losing everything I owned and my $85K a yr. career, then a 6mth jail term for theft to pay for my drug addiction (which I couldn't afford) I decided on my own.....to finally try to detox and get some help. The Methadone clinic offers both Suboxone and Methadone liquid. I tried Suboxone 2 years ago and found that it was more expensive (145 per wk compared to 65) and I didn't feel it worked very good. My problem is I was snorting it just like I did my Oxycotins. I only tried it a few times under the tongue like you are supposed to. I wonder if it didn't work that great because back then I was ready to quit...I didn't hit that "enoughs enough" stage quite yet. With the Methadone I feel NO withdrawls and very little cravings. The only kicker is I heard coming off of Methadone is WORSE than Oxycotin. I'm sure the clinic knows what they are doing and will gradually lower my dose and then get me off the Methadone without any withdrawls. I HOPE THAT IS??? Should I switch to Suboxone??? Does it work more effective than Methadone when taken properly with the proper mind set???? PLEASE HELP ME MAKE THIS IMPORTANT CHOICE...that is if you have experience in both. WHAT SHOULD I DO???.....WHICH ROUTE SHOULD I GO?????

Glad you have had enough of these drugs destroying your life and wanting to get clean.  I personally don't know much about either methadone or sub.  But from what I have read on here switching from oxy's to methadone is a bad choice.  I have heard the methadone is hell coming off of and that the clinic's only care about the money and never try to get you off. These are all just things I have read not first hand experience.  My brother did use methadone to get life together (living on the streets) and heroin and alcohol etc..  It took him many many many years to get down to a minimum amount. He never really got off the methadone. He was down really low and found out he was terminally ill, so needless to say, they started giving him all kinds of pain meds and upped the meth. That was my only first hand experince with the methadone. I have heard great things about the sub. but you will also need to taper off it.  Sorry I'm not much help with this, but others should respond soon with more info.  I am just glad you are on the right road to getting your life back. Keep posting and reading on the forum. It will help alot.  Mary

Hi & welcome
For 1 i still cannot belive that you have to pay for your methadone ect in the u.s. In the u.k it's free. & i'm on 110ml a day of methadone, But i only take 50 - 60 ml. I had got down lower, But relapsed at xmas,
Enyway i really want to go on suboxone, "they get called subotex here". But meth is very very addictive. I have done a c/t of meth in the past & it took 3 moth's to sleep proplely again. I'm dreading this 1.
At the mo i'm coming of herion so as you no. My w/d will be very mild, But it dosn't take my cravimg's away. Alot has to do with your addiction playing game's with your head.
I have never been on subx, But from what i've heard from people that have they are alot better than meth. But i'm no DOC so get more advise from here & do some looking up on the net. It will all be there
Good luck and let us no who ou get on.
Just posting ect here is a huge help & step toward's your recovery. What is it your on methadone for?. & i still cannot belive you have to pay that much for them.
God i no the u.k has it's fault's but i hear what you lot have to go through & think God that's 1 der habit. Even though i've spent thousand's on herion. At least my med's are free
Peace nat xx

Definately have the dr give you the sub. But make sure you follow his orders directly. If you can afford the sub, you will be better off in the long run. Getting off the methadone takes a long, long time. It is so addicting and once on it, its almost impossible to end. I go to a clinic, but they dont offer suboxone. The reason the sub didnt work very good is because you werent taking it as directed. It is just as good as methadone for the w/ds and the cravings. Good luck!
