Thank all of you for your help and encouragement. I was taking 10+/day Fioricet for many years. When I finally realized how bad it affected me physically and emotionally I came up with a plan and it worked! With the advice of people on here about tapering down "slowly" instead of trying to do it fast (really important).....I finally was on my way. What worked was writing down each and every pill I took, the time, and why I took it. This was a real eye opener. Most of them were NOT for headaches but I was taking them either just because I was used to how they gave me instant energy and alert (very short-lived, by the way) or because I was addicted and my system was craving them.
Anyone trying to get off of these needs to see a doctor or therapist. But what worked for me was keeping the log because it made it all so clear what was going on. I then used the log to get off them by cutting the pills in half and going down a half pill a week. It seemed like all of a sudden I was down to 2.....then 1......and realized I didn't need any at all. The feeling of being free from them and the irritable feeling they gave me is wonderful!! Something that will encourage anyone addicted to Fioricet is if you taper down slowly you'll be surprised how EASY it is.
I will always check if something is addictive and never take anything that is.
