i used to get migraines, horrible ones, nausea, sensitive to light, sound and heat. but mine were like one little spot in my temple area always on the left hand side, i used to vomit and even lose my vision or get tunnel vision in my right eye...i suffered from that in my twenties, and thats when i started dabbling with the pain meds, then i decided to get rid of my ex ...and the headaches went with him, havent had one in years (thank god!) but i think mine were cluster migraines?? not sure..but either way they are debilitating...and i feel for you... but if you do grind your teeth (bruxism) that can cause alot of problems too... have you asked a dentist about a device for your teeth to stop the grinding? maybe worth looking into...also try to pay attention to your stress levels...red wine, chocolate and some hard cheeses can cause migraines too...maybe you will get lucky and it WONT be related to your neck and they will one day just go away!!!best of luck Fladdict, i dont know how you do it, but grateful for your input for me....
That certainly sounds like a migraine. I can tell hours before when I'm gonna have one. The sensitivity to light, smell, and sound is a dead giveaway. You should really ask for some migraine drug samples. There's so many different ones. and, they are expensive as heck. Some of them are 20 dollars each. Hope you get some relief soon!!
Now that I am reading around... I thinks its more of a tension headache that a migraine... What I want to know is if the Mayo Clinic knows this info below.. why doesn't that damn doctor..
Tension headache may be made worse by jaw pain from clenching or grinding teeth (bruxism) or by head trauma, such as a blow to the head or whiplash injury. People with stiff joints and muscles due to arthritis of the neck or inflammation of the shoulder joints may develop tension headache
Mine are not only on one side.... mine start in the back of my skull right where it meets my neck and wraps around the front into my jaw and above my eyebrows.. I am sensitve to light, smell and sound.. I usually feel nauseous.
I have migraines, and I can tell you that they can be triggered by meds and other physical symptoms. I get them if I get a flash of bright light. I will tell you the easiest way to diagnose a migraine. Have the doc give you a sample dose of Imitrex. If it knocks out the migraine, then that's what it is. Also, from what I've been told, migraines usually only occur on one side of the head. Mine are always on the left side. I'm gonna look up Mobic right now. You've peaked my interest!!
Thanks for the support.. I just got home after barely being able to make it through the day.. The pain and emotions were too much.. The pharm didn't have the Mobic so I have to pick it up tommorrow.. I looked it up online and it looks kinda scary.. I am gonna schedule an MRI as soon as possible. And make an appt for another opinion..
I just can't believe that this guy didn't think the headaches were related???? How can they not be.. I only get them when I am in pain from my neck. From every thing I have ever been told about a migraine that is what it sounds like.. And I even looked up arthritis of the neck and one of the symptoms is headaches??? So even his diagnosis has headaches as a symptom!!!! ARGGG!! I have been in tears all day and very upset.. Even if I really do have the arthritis he says I do.. my job is gonna make it worse and quickly.. This is really even more frustrating than it was before..
Day 47 pretty much sucks... I am not gonna lie..
Steph.. it is NOT weird you are getting conflicting opinions.. BUT you will know so much more once you get the m.r.i. - it will give you many more answers. You may still get different opinions on courses of treatment (I've had many..) but at least YOU will have more facts, and can do enough research then to at least, as far as you know, point you in the right direction.
Your chiro, btw, will always tell you it's all about the spine being out of alignment, the curve, etc. - it's what they do. And I don't necessarily disagree with that. But other MD's (traditional) don't tend to look at it from that standpoint, altho luckily, I do think more MD's are being more open minded to chiropractic care these days...
When are you getting the mri? Definitely don't make any big decisions until this is done... trust me on this. Therein lie the facts, ma'am (in the mri..)
Make sense?
I'm so sorry you didn't get the answers you were looking for. I personally think the MRI is a great idea. I think the doc should have waited to start the PT until he saw the MRI results. What if you had something that could be aggravated by the PT? Also, I took the Skelaxin as well. I agree that it seems weaker to me. Plus, it left a copper taste in my mouth. Just a warning in case you get that taste, too.
I agree, get the 3rd opinion. Doctors, esp ortho's can be very frusrating. Some seem to have a complex and will tell you different things at different appt's. I also think they are quick t dismiss issues due to age.. FYI, My PC sent me home with Skelexin and Zanaflax for my back recently and your right the Skelexin is very weak and really doesn't help. THe Zanaflax works better to relax the muscles.
Take care and good luck~
Yes I am frustrated to say the least... off to work.. of course with a headache from He77!!!!
MRI and 3rd opinion most definitely!
Love,
Yoda
Yes, I think it's quite strange that you would get two totally different answers. As everyone and hubby says, definitely get another opinion. I can only imagine how frustrated you are. If you ever need to talk, you know I'm hear for you...
i would definately get the MRI first, then if he still doesnt listen to you go for 3rd opinion, the MRI just about saved my hubbys life, no docs could find anything wrong so he started to doubt himself thinking "maybe" it is all in his head, the MRI proved otherwise...good luck and i hope you get some answers soon!!!
Does it sound weird to you that I would get such conflicting opinions?? And that he says the headaches are probably not related?? i just feel like he wasn't listening to me... That what I was saying was not registering..
Steph.I would take your hubby's advise and get a third opinion.after all three's a charm i hear.I have neck problems and i get headaches.I'm afraid to even see a doc for fear of surgery.Good luck.have a good day.Bruce
I'm sorry Steph. You should keep trying. Doctor's are kinda weird...hopefully you'll be able to find a solution to this problem.
I really don't know how it went.... This guy seems to think my headaches are unrelated ( which in my eyes is just plain crazy) and that all I have is a little arthritis..That he also mentioned I am too young to have the way I have it.. So I am confused to say the least.. He wants me to do PT for 4 weeks and get a MRI.. My chiro was against my doing PT..and he sent me home with Skelaxin and Mobic.. I took Skelaxin before and i remember it being very weak as far as a muscle relaxer goes.. My chiro thinks the issue is the curve not being in my neck and my head pushing forward.. I think its strange that I got two totally different opinions.. My hubby thinks I should get a third.. This sucks..
I gotta go to work soon..
I hope it is a good appt. for you. Be sure and let us know how it went.
Much love,
Yoda
i hope you find some relief AND some answers...good luck :)
