oh my dear I so know where you are comen from, I diddnt sleep much at all during my detox I was like kyle I posted alot about the no sleep and no energy but I'm on day 61 and sleeping and my energy is not to shabby, so it will come i could say what everyone else said but no need they said it already so well. your body is healing and it takes time I was so wanten it to just hurry up and be over I wanted me back and finally one day I just realized that wasnt gonna happen and just buckled down and accepted that it was gonna take sometime. and that helped me once I realized it was normal I stopt getten all tore up about it. but I do agree that if you need to talk to your doctor you should I diddnt I just rode the storm out and to be honest still riding it out cause its a life changing experience. hang in there love the zzz's will return and I have kids to and hated that they had to see mom in the shape I was in but I knew in long run it was best for everybody exp me.  I hope that things start looking up for you hang in there sweets.

When I was awake for 16 days, I finally broke down and took a hypnotic, Lunesta. I know it was not ideal, but the sleep deprivation wasn't too good on the brain chemistry either. I used it one night and slept for 6 hrs. I was awake for 3 more days and used it one night again. After about 21 days, I started to sleep on my own. This is not advice, but a testimony. I began to hallucinate and had to do something, but using a new pill everyday was not an option. I chose to take it when absolutely needed. If you can make it without sleep aids that's best, but don't beat yourself up if you need to get help from your doctor. Our brain chemistry heals when we are sleeping, so our bodies are fighting themselves in detox. The most important thing is, stay away from opiates. Good luck and I hope you get some rest soon.

Love, you need medical help with this. You cant force your body to function the way it used to be right now, its functioning because the opiates have put a monkey wrench in to its normal discrection of balancing chemicals. Its like you have a broken arm, you can let it swing there or you can get help. Its not your fault but your body is not functioning the way it should due to the opiates shuting down its normal functioning. Its not your fault but still remains the issue. If its more than you can handle then go to the hospital.

Melatonin is a hormone. Whats going on with us is not normonal but as mentioned its all a receptor problem. Just talk to you doctor and get the right med for the right thing.

Im no doctor but have heard that Prozac prevents the neurons from taking away the seritonin. maybe talk to your doctor about this as an option untill your neurotransmitters are up and running again. Opiates are not only a pain reducer but pleasure enhancer and us that have taken them in abuse or excess our central nervous system is all off wack. These opiates have even affected the little end linings that stimulate the muscles in charge of all the coming and going of brain chemical that keep our bodies in balance. We are off balance and i belive need medical intervention if its gets to bad.

Listen to what these smart people are telling you.  Ambien is not the same thing as Xanax, but you have to be very careful, especially with young children in the home.  It can really knock you for a loop.  NOT a good idea.

I think you should follow the advice the posters are giving you...the sleep WILL come back in time...and it's not like you aren't getting ANY.  2 hours isn't much, but it is something.  When I worked steady nights, that's about all I got every day for years (yes, I was tired and crabby, but fully functional).  You CAN function on 2 hours per night.  Sure, you won't feel super, but you can still function.  Your anxiety levels are high too, which is probably attributing to the sleep issue.  This is also typical for where you are at in your detox, hon.

You're trying too hard and are focusing too much on it.  Distraction works great....try to do things so you are not thinking about it so much.   If you feelyou have to do something, go to your doctor.  Don't take someone else's sleeping pill.

Just my two cents.

This is going to sound very cliche, but exercise is a godsend.  You need to release any anxiety that your body may be experiencing and sleep will come naturally. If you are not getting the exercise your body needs, then there will be no sleeping.
I also had to take 20 mg of Melatonin 30 to 40 minutes before I wanted to go to sleep and this really helped regulate my sleep patterns. I only did this for the first 3 weeks of coming off opiates and benzos.

Xanax can really have a negative affect on your bodies natural sleep control, but like all your natural bodily functions, they will return in do time.

Try drinking some warm milk before bed. Opiates have interfered with your neurotransmitters and are not allowing seritonim transmitter to release the signal necessary for sleep. Milk has tryptophan which is in the same family. Thats whe mom always gave us one back when.

I know nothing about ambian. I tried melatonin - I didn't like the fact that I was taking another pill, although it is completely natural, etc. I just didn't want to start depending on it to sleep, but, like you, I had to get some rest. It was physical, but the mind game was the worst.
It seemed to work for me; after the first night I even halved the dose (difficult because it was a liquid capsule). After a couple of nights I stopped using it on a regular basis. Took it every now and then. But the bottom line is you have to be careful, natural or not.

I agree with IBk and Kyle. You're doing great with 9 days, and at that stage of detox, everyone has sleep problems. Taking more chemicals to help you sleep is not the answer. Give your body a chance to heal. I didn't sleep for
many days, and I have 2 young kids. It was hard, especially when they were rolling out of bed at 7:30 and I hadn't been to sleep yet. You will be amazed what you can do with little or no sleep. Take advantage of whatever help you can get with the kiddos. ASK for help. You need it right now. Be patient, don't use and things will get better, I promise you that.

No reason to be scared. Focus on what you've done - 9 days is amazing. There are newbies just starting out who would give anything to be where you are.
I went through the same thing - in fact, I posted more about not sleeping than I did about my hellish detox.
This doesn't help you now, but you just have to hang in there; you will start sleeping. But the more you stress about it, the harder it is.
Congrats on nine days clean. Fantastic.

Hey, have you tried any non-chemical methods to assist in sleeping? Sounds to me like you may have some anxiety about sleeping, which is totally normal, but, of course, counterproductive.

Massage and sauna can really help to relax. Focused breathing is a huge help for me. It does take some time to perfect, but if you work on it, you can learn to lower your heart rate and blood pressure by meditating for about thirty minutes. I literally can't do it lying down or I fall asleep.

I definitely agree with IBK about taking too many sleep aids - even without WD, mixing all that stuff up can whack you out pretty good...

First of all you have to calm down hun. Take deep breathes. You are not dying. I know you don't want to hear this but it is normal for 9 days.

What I think is the problem is all of the stuff you are taking to try and force sleep. Don't forget your brain chemistry was out of whack when you were using so now you stop and you haven't allowed it time to heal naturally. Each one of those things that you take alters it again. You are going to have to let it heal on it's own and you will have to be patient if you want to stay clean. I know it is hard when there are little people depending on you. I don't know what the answer is for that but please just hang in there. this will end and you will be back to a regular sleep schedule.
