One Year...all things are possible

I passed the one year clean mark this week.  Not bragging or advocating, but just saying...I managed without any help other than this forum.  If I feel I ever need help going forward, I would not hesitate to seek it out, as one of the main things I finally learned as an addict is that the drug road I was on was just not sustainable. But so far I am good...I started working out and jogging and lost 15 pounds.Even quit all caffiene, which in its own way is also very difficult physically, as also have migraines and have had a problem with Excederin. So anyway, I responded to a post several months ago and I said then I would check in at the one year mark, so that is what I have done. I would like to say to everyone fighting this fight that it can be done. Life, energy, physical / mental well being will return...even better than before as you will have additional strength to know you can change the things in your life that you feel need changing to improve.

I definitely think exercise helps...particularly with what you are doing with your back.  Even if the physical part was not enough, the mental side of physical exercise does wonders for our feeling of well being. And it bleeds over into other habits such as eating better. I find it harder to go eat a burger and fries after jogging 3 miles. Thanks to all other nice and encouraging comments...I appreciate it and keep everyone fighting this fight in my lthoughts to continue winning the daily battles to a clean and better life. It is truly a great thing to have some control over your day rather than having some pills dictate to you.

Congrats on one year!! So proud of you. I do have a question for you. How much do you think the exercise has been helping? The reason I ask is because I too have been exercising, eating healthier, and also doing things to help my back such as core strengthening exercises, stretching, physical therapy, etc. I  can honestly say that in the past it was pain that always caused my relapses. The problem with my relapses is that I couldn't control my use. After a few days it was always one extra until that one extra turned into over 20 extra a day. But, even though it was the pain even when I wasn't in pain I still always thought about them. Since I am now controlling my pain by other means I don't crave at all anymore. But I think it's the healthier lifestyle I am living. Just wonder if you feel the same?
Once again, congrats on your clean time!! I think I'm right around 7 or 8 months so I'm not too far behind. Whatever you do, don't let me catch you!!
So happy for you new found freedom! Never stop fighting!

Brian
